The Office of Pierre Affre

By Brian O'keefe
(Submitted by Brian Okeefe Photography)

I had the pleasure of meeting Pierre Affre, the first time, on a tarpon fishing adventure in Sierra Leone, Africa in 1992. In Europe, Pierre is an angling legend. He is best known for his fishing articles, photography and television work.

In April of 2003, Judith and I went to Paris and rented an apartment, owned by Pierre and his wife, Carol. The apartment is fifty yards from Pierre's office on rue Dauphine. It was walking distance to many of the best sights in Paris, including the beautiful River Seine.

If you like old bamboo rods and Hardy reels, plus glass cased fish mounts, ancient angling books, posters and catalogs, then you would love this place.

If you have the opportunity, pick up a copy of the recently published book, FLY FISHING THE 41st by author, artist, and musician, James Prosek. In it you will find a chapter about Pierre and his cronies fishing for one hundred pound catfish in downtown Paris.

On a musical note: James Prosek and his group, Troutband have recorded a great CD called, ALL WET. One of our favorite listens here at the O'Keefe ranch.

The photos in this assay were taken with a Canon G1 Power Shot, digital, "point and shoot" camera.
