Bear Bay Lodge, Alaska

Judith and I joined friends and lodge owners, Travis Wren and Ty Johnson, for a week of classic, Alaska fly fishing. (new spring rainbow and king shots have been added)

The weather was great for early September, and like most Alaska wilderness lodges, the food, staff and equipment was excellent.

Some days we went by boat across Aleknagik Lake and up the Agulawak River. There, we had outstanding fishing for rainbows up to five pounds, char that averaged about 19 inches, and some big grayling on dries.

On other days we flew to the Agulapak for rainbows that averaged between three and eight pounds. And on our last day we flew to the Togiak for silvers . . . as in mint bright and rather large too! A couple of bear sightings on the "other" bank topped off a great day and week.

Check out the Gear Review section for more specific information on tackle for this trip.
