At the 4UR Ranch, near Creede, Colorado it is hard to judge what is better; the fishing or the food. Both are awesome. Then, throw in a fantastic staff and guides, incredible scenery and great accommodations. The 4UR Ranch is more than a fly fishing destination. There are tons of things to do for the non-fly fisher. The summer is busy with a famous kids program (and green drake hatches). Anyone and everyone can be kept busy with equestrian activities, a natural hot springs and pool, hiking and just kicking back. And did I mention that the food alone is reason enough to visit this SW Colorado destination. I fished with buddy Phil Monahan, editor of American Angler magazine for just two days in early Sept. We fished on Upper Goose Creek for brookies, up to 16 inches. We fished with small dries, nymphs and streamers. The upper water is fast pocket water. When you find a good pool it is loaded with fish. The middle part of Goose Creek is a meandering meadow stream where all techniques, especially hoppers, worked well. There was a mix of rainbows, browns, cutthroats and cutt-bows. The lower sections of Goose Creek has some nice deep undercut banks and quite a few 20 inch trout. We did not have time to fish the nearby Rio Grande but I will next time. These photos only scratch the surface. In two days we just got into the groove before we had to drive back to Denver. I can see why a lot of 4UR Ranch guests stay two weeks.
