Feeding Habits 

Coastal cutthroat, especially larger individuals, tend to be piciverous (fish predators).  Big coastal cutthroat eat whole crawdads too.  Believe it. 

 

Frank Moore and I were swapping Sea-run stories earlier this year.  We were sitting at the dinner table at his home on the North Umpqua while the hustle, bustle, and aroma of a meal in preparation by our wives reminded us how fortunate we are to be loved and tolerated by our families.

 

Frank told me about the time he hooked a 6” or 8” trout while he was fishing the North Umpqua during the late 1940s or early 1950s.  While retrieving the little trout to release it, a big Sea-run took the trout so hard that..
