Rio Corcovado - March 21st, 2007
supplied by: Andes Outfitters
RECORDED:    60 °   FISHING: Good
We fished the Corcovado River for 4 consecutive days.   Here is a short report of each day and stretch of water:

Day 1: We fished the Mouth (headwaters) of the Corcovado River at Vintter Lake.  There were large Brook trout in the first 1/4 of a mile of river, particularly at the bucket right down the Lake.  Ed Redman, from NC hooked an estimated 6 lb brookie on a redfish fly fished deep on a Teeny 200 line.  This was the only large fished hooked (and lost at the net).  Jim Melton, also from NC hooked and released 4 or 5 16" rainbows caught on a # 10 stimulator, fishing on the riffle below the bucket.   We moved downstream 1/2 mile and we caught more 10" to 14" rainbows.  No brook trout at all.  A fellow angler who fished further downstream, where the fiver is deeper and with lots of underwater vegetation hooked and released a few brookies in the 16" to 20 " range.

Day 2: Today we fished a stretch of water right below the last bridge that crosses the river on the road to Chile.  We floated aprox. 10 km of river.  One angler caught 20 + fish between 16" to 24", mostly rainbows on dry flies and nymphs.  We saw a bunch of Chinook salmon that were almost black in color and didn't seem to bother with our offerings.  This stretch of water, inaccesible to most anglers (we have the keys to the Ranch) is unbelievable beautiful and productive.  Other anglers in our party hooked and released a few brown trout, all caught on sink tip lines and streamers.

Day 3:  After a long ride to the mouth of the Corcovado we found it unfishable due to high winds and large waves.  We drove back to Poncho Moro som 20 km upstream from the town of Corcovado and hooked and released rainbow and brown trout from 14" to 20".  Still no monsters in sight (fish over 5 lbs.)

Day 4: Today we floated from Poncho Moro to El Palenque (10 km float).  The fishing was good but we had to walk the rafts a lot due to low water and overgrown vegetation.  Fishing was tough with a few small rainbow and brown trout from 12" to 20".

Rio Nant-Y-Fall - March 12th, 2007
supplied by: Andes Outfitters
RECORDED:    82 °   FISHING: Excellent
We had excellent fishing at the mouth of the Nant-y-fall river at Lake Rosario.  Fishing was very technical.  Large trout seem to ignore our dry flies while actively feeding on unidetifiable flies.  We managed to catch two rainbow trout of 24" + on # 20 Griffiths Gnats and one 5 lb rainbow on a San Fermin Muddler and sink tip line.  It very exciting to watch large trout cruise all around our rafts and take this tiny flies with abandon.

Futaleufu - March 17th, 2006
supplied by: El Encuentro Fly Fishing Lodge
RECORDED:    60 °   FISHING: Fair
Fishing on the Futaleufu has been spotty.  With moments of near greatness smattered throughout otherwise difficult fishing conditions.  Fall is here and bringing with her the wind and rain.  Wooly buggers are still producing some nice sized browns and others are using nymphs.  Dry fly fishing has all but blown away witht the wind.

CaleuFu - March 18th, 2004
supplied by: Patagonia Flyfishing
RECORDED:    62 °   FISHING: Great
Once we arrived to the monolith we decided to walk way up where Mike Teal got his nice brown in February , so we walked 10 kilometers up .

Fishing was great , green woolly buggers and fry .

The biggest we caught a brown of 3,5 pounds , all the others averaging 2,5 pounds .

Lago Lolog - March 13th, 2004
supplied by: Patagonia Flyfishing
RECORDED:    62 °   FISHING: Poor

As I am always with clients and can´t fish in my free Saturday I went with two friends to fish and have a good barbecue by the mouth of river Nalca in Lolog lake .

We really had a good barbecue but about fishing , only a rainbow in the whole day . Tha lake was very calm , the temperature of the water may be warm and the pressure that had a sudden  change may be the reasons for this fishing failure .

Lago Villarino - December 1st, 2003
supplied by: Patagonia Flyfishing
RECORDED:    35 °   FISHING: Excellent

Monday the first me and 2 clients decided to fish little lakes because of the wind and cold rain so we decided to fish Villarino lake . After 40 kilometers from San Martín we arrived there and putted the boat in the water and went just straight to the end of the lake , to the " Cajón negro " river .

The level of the waters was extremely high , you couldn´t even identify by where was the course of the river ( 1,5 meters higher than normal )

Just the clients putted the fly on the water and a 2 kilos brown was caught by a green woolly bugger . We ended the afternoon running out of the lake because of the clouds of snow we could see coming from the pacific (from Chile , remember these lakes are at no more than 100 kilometers from the Pacific ocean )

Finally we caught 23 trouts averaging 3,5 pounds to 5 pounds , 15 of them browns . Almost all in green patterns (woolly buggers and rabbits)

Meliquina - November 9th, 2003
supplied by: Patagonia Flyfishing
FISHING: Poor
Yesterday , November 8 fishing season started all over our Patagonic rivers . Weather had been stormy since two days ( a lot of rain ) ending with snow that covered all our mountains for the 8 morning . Even though when the clouds start to disappear  , Eduardo ( a local guide ) and me decided to fish Meliquina river . There we were at 3PM , the river 50 cm higher than a week before , the water very cold cause the snow was melting and the river running so fast that made impossible to wade it . We started fishing the junction with Guillermina creek ( I caught 2 nice browns averaging 2,5 pounds ) and afterwards nothing . We suppose that the poor fishing was due to the fool moon plus the fast water and the high river , cause that 2 browns came just in shallow not fast water . I tried with a lot of nimphs but finally caught them with a brown woolly bugger with yellow rubber legs in size 6 . Finally we decided to quit early and return in a week when the waters return to normality .
