Pedder Bay - Vancouver Island - February 18th, 2007
supplied by: Island Outfitters
FISHING: Fair
Fishing was SLOWER with most boats getting a fish or two. The most productive area was from Whirl Bay to the Bedford Islands where anglers were catching springs up to 21 lbs. The big fish of the week was the 21 lb spring caught by Bob Dalziel in Whirl Bay. A 19 lb fish was landed near the Bedfords. The mouth of the bay near the can buoy has been slower, but still a few were caught there. The best fishing has been close to the bottom in 117 to 125 feet of water in Whirl Bay and a bit deeper if you’re fishing at the mouth of the bay. If you’re fishing bait, use anchovy or small herring in Watermelon, Mint Pearl or Purple Haze teaser heads. With plastic baits use the Cloverleaf, Army Truck or Purple Haze hootchies and squirts. With spoons try Silver/Brass, Green Silver, Mongoose, or Watermelon color combinations with 4” Coyotes, Gypsies and Titans.
HALIBUT- Several ‘Chicken” size halibut were weighted in at the marina. Extra Large herring and/or Octopus are the most popular baits. However, if the dogfish become a nuisance you can use Mudraker or Lucky Jigs or the new Glow in the Dark bullet Jig.

Victoria Waterfront - Vancouver Island - February 18th, 2007
supplied by: Island Outfitters
FISHING: Fair
Salmon fishing was FAIR for winter springs. Constance Bank was the most productive area and some anglers were doing well on fish into the mid teens. The waterfront, from Clover Point to the Gravel Pit, was definitely slower. At both the bank and near the waterfront, most anglers were fishing quite deep, at least 140 feet. Seals are still a problem at times. The herring have started going up the gorge with anglers reporting catching up to 15 in a trip. When trolling the waterfront, look for the schools of baitfish, fish near bait, and wait for the bite to come. Anchovy in Glow, Purple Haze and Watermelon teaser heads are working well. Cracked Ice or Glow flashers have been very productive too. Jellyfish, Purple Haze and Cloverleaf squirts fished behind Purple Glow or Green Glow flashers have been working well too. If you use spoons, try Green Silver, Cop Car or Army Truck color combinations with 4” or 5” Coyotes, Gypsies, Tomics and Titans.
HALIBUT - Constance Bank again produced a bunch of nice halibut up to 55 lbs during the week. Leo Fries caught a pair of 54 and 24 lb hali’s on Tuesday. Extra Large Herring and/or Octopus are the most popular baits. However, if the dogfish become a nuisance you can use Mudraker or Lucky Jigs or the new Glow in the Dark bullet Jigs.

Oak Bay - Vancouver Island - February 18th, 2007
supplied by: Island Outfitters
FISHING: Good
Fishing was GOOD for winter springs ranging from 3 to 6 lbs out on the Flats the last we heard, but we haven’t heard of anyone fishing there this past week. The fish have been in the 80 to 120 foot depths, chasing needlefish. However, there doesn’t seem to be a seal problem in Oak Bay so when you do get a fish you’re actually likely to land it. Most of the action has been coming on Glo Below or Green/White squirts and hootchies.
HALIBUT - No halibut were weighted in at the marina. Extra Large herring and/or Octopus are the most popular baits. However, if the dogfish become a nuisance, you can use Mudraker or Lucky Jigs or the new Glow in the Dark bullet Jigs.

Sidney - Vancouver Island - February 18th, 2007
supplied by: Island Outfitters
FISHING: Good
Salmon fishing has been GOOD in Sidney. The south end of the Sidney Channel and near the Powder Wharf has been the best with several anglers landing winter springs into the low teens. A few fish are also being caught near Coal Island. The best fishing has been close to the bottom in deeper water. 4” Coyote or Gypsy spoons in Mongoose, Silver/Green or Green/Glow have been the best baits. Other good bets are Anchovy and Tiny Strip. Plastic baits have been good too with the Glow Squirts, J-79 and Jellyfish being the best ones.

Stamp River - February 18th, 2007
supplied by: Island Outfitters
FISHING: Poor
The fishing this past week was a repeat of last week, that is, it’s been A LOT SLOWER than in previous weeks. There are just a few new fish entering the river each day. The water did come up a bit this past week and still no big schools of fish arrived. There are plenty of fish in the system with the majority of the fish between the bucket and the falls.

Vedder River - February 18th, 2007
supplied by: Fred's Fishing Adventures
FISHING: Fair
We received a large amount of rain last night, fortunately it did NOT blow out.  The river is fishable below the clay banks, but conditions are not ideal. There is about 8'' of visibility at the Vedder bridge and the water is a greeny brown color.  Above the clay banks the water is in great shape and there have been reports of several fish being caught in that area. The past few days have been a little slow due to water conditions but it seems to be starting to clean up now.  Most of the pressure has been put on the upper river in the past week.  There have been steelhead weighed in every day, and talk of many more being caught.  Perry Nimco is now leading the Walley Hall derby with a 16.17 pound doe, so make sure you sign up before heading out for your next trip.  The forecast is calling for sun today and rain starting this evening throughout tonight and clearing up for Sunday.  When it does rain enough, the clay banks will continue to be a problem especially below the Allison Canyon area where we have a large area that is dumping clay into the river. If the river is not fishable at the Crossing there is a good chance that going above this area you will find better conditions.

Chehalis River - February 18th, 2007
supplied by: Fred's Fishing Adventures
FISHING: Good
The Chehalis river has been good for Steelhead. Water conditions are the key on this system.  If the levels get too low it can be difficult, this usually means heading over to the Chilliwack/Vedder. The number of fish so far this winter has been impressive. This river is a great alternative to fishing the Chilliwack when conditions are not the best.
