Oyster River - October 29th, 2005
supplied by: Tyee Marine
FISHING: Good
There has been more effort put into fishing upstream on the Oyster this week, as more fish have started moving out of the estuary and upriver. Fly Fishers have reported good catches of Cutthroat Trout. Again, Rolled Muddlers, small Fry Patterns and Egg Patterns will work well this time of year. A reminder that you must use single barbless hooks and release your catch.

Miramichi River - October 8th, 2005
supplied by: Fishing New Brunswick
FISHING: Good
With the water remaining high, the best fishing this week has been on the tributaries of the Dungarvon and the Cains. Our canoeing and fishing trips on the stretch of the Main River from Doaktown to Country Haven also produced some fish. The fishermen doing the Cains River run had the best results as there were always a good number of fish available throughout the trip. For any fly fishermen to stand in the silence of the Cains - it being one of the best little fall Atlantic Salmon rivers in the world, surrounded by nature and fall colors, with each cast anticipating that tug from the greatest game fish of them all - for a fly-fishermen, it doesen't get much better than the Cains in the fall! Best fly was the Mickey Finn on the Cains, Ally's Shrimp on the Main River, Rusty Rat on the Dungarvon and nothing working on the Renous. With another rain over night and more in the forcast, it might be another week of shore fishing on the main river and more day canoeing and fishing trips on the tributaries.

Corbett Lake - September 23rd, 2005
supplied by: The Avid Angler
RECORDED:    60 °   FISHING: Great
The weather, company, food and fishing was awesome for the whole weekend.

On Friday, September 23rd, the dry fly fishing was spectacular.  There was no hatch to speak of, but the fish were eating our half down skwala's dries with reckless abandonment.  A white or bright red leech pattern also took a number of fish and hare's ears, pheasant tails, prince nymphs and callibaetis nymphs took fish.  The day was capped with another great dinner by Peter McVey and included salad, lamb chops and dessert.

The dry fly fishing cooled a bit on Saturday, but a white rabbit strip leech proved to be very effective.  This method proved to be the best and the most exciting as the takes were extremely aggressive.  Chironomid fishing was slow, but I did take a large (double digit) fish on a number 14 chromie.  Saturday's dinner was prime rib and the rustic cabins were a great place to retire for relaxation after a long fishing day and a wonderful meal.

Sundays fishing continued to be good with the leech fishing again producing the most fish.  One of our customers had 12 fish in 25 or so casts using a white rabbit leech pattern.  Dry fly fishing was slow, but a few fish were taken.

All in all the fishing was very successful and I am looking forward to going back next year.  Our dates in June look very promising as Nate has gone the last two years in mid June and done very well on Callibaetis and damsels.  Give us a call if you are interested in joining us during this weekend trip.

Local Lake - South Vancouver Island - August 24th, 2005
supplied by: Island Outfitters
FISHING: Fair
Trout fishing has been FAIR, so not much has changed recently. Your best bet is to fish deep and/or near the thermocline. On Elk Lake, one angler reports that a trout killer rainbow apex trolled on downrigger at 15 feet out fished a worm and gangtroll, and hooked rainbows up to 6 lbs! Most of the bigger trout (fish over 3 lbs) are coming from Elk or Langford Lake. Elsewhere, anglers are catching a few trout on a variety of methods. Prospect Lake has produced action on smaller fish (12-18 inches). Langford Lake has been fair for trout, better for bass. Orange or Chartreuse Powerbait are still the colors to use off of the fishing pier and over by the highway at Elk lake. Fly anglers fishing the old reliable Black Leeches, Wooly Buggers, Doc Spratleys and Damselfly nymphs are getting a few fish. Small spoons, Flatfish, or Kwikfish in frog patterns or yellow with red and black dots are also a good choice for trolling. For information about fish stocking visit http://www.gofishbc.com

Campbell River - lakes - May 10th, 2005
supplied by: Tyee Marine
FISHING: Good
Lake Scene: local lakes are being fished with good results. Both daytime and nighttime temperatures are warm and trout have begun to feed on available aquatic insects and smaller fish. Once the weather is consistently warm, look for more airborne insect hatches and consequent surface feeding activity.
