Shoals of sea trout are still moving along the coast, although nothing huge, silver trout ranging between 35 and 45cm are giving good action.
The season has not finished and don't get out your winter vice to early...There's still fish around!

21st JUNE - WHAT A GRAY DAY
T
he skies opened bringing much needed rain over the weekend. The water had been running very low and fishing was becoming a nightmare. The difference was overwhelming.
Although still plenty of rain is needed, there was enough to satisfy both the angler and fish. Not much hatching going on, but very good nymphing to be had with the key pattern being the B-Midge. All together, the pattern has taken 23 grayling over the last 4 days. I think we can say it's a tested pattern!
Ripley managed to sink a nymph into a fast running pool after a heavy rain shower and took a hit that he had never seen. The grayling was estimated around 50cm and fought a good battle with a spectacular jump. But the grayling won the battle and was lost and was never seen again.
The witness, our current guest Steven Lavey said "That was a beautiful fat fish, one not worthy of being caught!" Rightly so!

16th JUNE - LOW WATER
Most rivers are down to their bare bones and rain is needed. Certain streams and brooks are almost unfishable giving cause for concern. Few deep pools remain holding some good fish but they are not that easy to catch.
By using upstream nymph techniques with varied leader lengths, Ripley managed to land 4 grayling with the largest topping 42cm. Along with the grayling, Ripley also managed to land 2 brown trout and 5 rainbow.
The pool was estimated around 2 to 3 metres deep and only about 3 metres wide and 5 metres long. A lot of fish were missed and lost. That's a lot of fish holding in one pool!
