Sisters Oregon Area - Small Streams - April 12th, 2008
supplied by: The Flyfishers Place
FISHING: Fair
We have several small creeks near Sisters.  Small water, small fish but usually you can have Wychus Creek to yourself!

However, spring run off will blow small creeks out quickly.

Siletz River - April 8th, 2008
supplied by: Deschutes River Outfitters
FISHING: Good

The Siletz is 5.0 ft and was on a slow drop. Always tough to predict winter steelhead rivers, if it's in, go fish it.  Better to make the report than chase reports. This river will fish into April.

Nestucca River - April 6th, 2008
supplied by: The Fish House Outdoor Co.
RECORDED:    44 °   FISHING: Good
The North Coast Rivers, namely the Nestucca, are winding down for winter Steelhead.  There are still fresh fish around but it is one here or there.  We have nicer weather upon us and will see the first good push of summer Steelhead shortly, and the first springer will be caught soon.  We are expecting a great summer Steelhead return this year, so it should be fun.  The offshore closure does not affect the inland fishery at this time.  We are really looking forward to the new season and the bumper crop of fresh summers.  Hope to see you on the water soon. Jesse and Sara ZalonisThe Fish House Outdoor Co. www.fishhouseguideservice.com

North Santiam River - March 16th, 2008
supplied by: The Patient Angler
RECORDED:    43 °   FISHING: Good
My trip to Boca de Iguanas on mainland Mexico was postponed until April, so I took the opportunity to grab my spey rod and head over to the only steelhead water in good shape and a river I had not visited in a while, the North Santiam. I got up early and headed over the pass in the rain, which soon turned into snow. By the time I reached the top of the pass I was in white out conditions in 4WD going 10 mph. As I dropped over the other side of the pass the snow turned to rain again and I could finally let the blood return to my knuckles and hoped my efforts would please the Steelhead Gods and reward me with a fish.

When I arrived at the river, the temperature was around 40 degrees with a steady rain falling, a perfect winter steelhead day! I hiked into one of my favorite runs on the river to find it empty with nothing but the sounds of the river at first light. I strung up my 7136-4 Z-AXIS with a type 8 sink-tip and my Marabou Stinger fly and worked my way to the top of the run. This is one of the fishiest runs I know so I decided to take my time and work the water slowly, sometimes hitting a spot with 2 or 3 extra swings. It took me three hours to work through that run covering all the water. At 2 ½ hours and ¾ of the way through the run, I had passed through what I considered the best water of the run and was approaching the tail out. I started justifying in my mind that I had passed through the best water without a grab and that it was ok, because I had enjoyed the casting and being back in the river again and blah…blah….blah. Just then I was jolted out of my daydream with a solid pull on my line, then the headshake came, I set to the bank and I was hooked-up. It turned out after a nose down fight, to be a beautiful wild fish that had a nice big tail. I fish the rest of the rainy day covering a number of other runs, but that first fish was the only grab of the day.

I tested out a new pair of SIMMS Rivershed Studded AquaStealth wading boots and I was impressed with a lightweight, good looking boot that was easy to put on, and comfortable to walk in. I’m not sure if I would say the traction in the river was quite as good as standard felt with studs, but it was close, and the fact that snow will not stick to the bottom of the AquaStealth makes them a great choice for a winter boot.

Bruer Reservoir - private - May 6th, 2007
supplied by: Go West Outfitters
RECORDED:    61 °   FISHING: Excellent
Bass fishing is really great right now. We had our first bass fishing tournament yestarday and it was a great success. Most everything was subsurface, but there was plenty of action. One angler caught 37 fish for the day. Spinners and plastic worms were the top choice.

RECORDED:    70 °   FISHING: Excellent
Bull trout fishing is hot right now. We landed 20 bulls before noon. The top fish went 27" and the smallest was 20". A few days ago we had a 33" fish that went 15lbs. If you have ever wanted to fish for big bull trout now is the time.

Tillamook Bay - January 9th, 2007
supplied by: The Guide Shop
FISHING: Fair
The cold weather is here and the bite will really pick up so grab your mittens and come on over. All rivers are coming into shape nicely with the Kilchis this afternoon green and but still slightly high. The Wilson River is at 6.47 ft., coffee cream turning green. The cold air will put it into shape tomorrow morning. The expected level tomorrow for the Wilson is 5.5 ft, perfect! The Trask mirrors the Wilson and will be ready for you tomorrow as well. Here is Scott Clarke braving the windy, cold temperatures on January 2nd fishing with his dad on his 62nd birthday. Scott took this 25" hen fishing the Wilson. Good fishing to dad and son and to all, Marilyn

Kilchis River - December 19th, 2006
supplied by: The Guide Shop
FISHING: Poor
Fishing report brought to you courtesy of Rob Russell, STS Magazine: A handful of bright Chinook were caught on the Kilchis over the weekend. Boaters who launched at Kilchis Park were greeted by a downed fir tree, completely blocking the river 100 yards below the launch. There are several other trees down through the upper float. Until the first tree is cleared, I would not advise boating the upper river.
