Nehalem River - South Fork - November 29th, 2005

We fished it this weekend and had success for Fall Chinooks. We landed six that were fresh for the ocean and had a few dark fish that were released. We are primarily fishing with Eggs cure in Fire Cure, (Orange - Pink) made by Pautzke's. Bobbers, back bouncing and diver/bait back trolling were all productive. The water is slightly high but fish the moving water and resting places and you'll get you opportunity's. Fishing will continue as long as the water is fishable or until later in the month when the numbers of salmon sharply decreases. The steelhead do not show in big numbers in this river until well after the year. there are some fish but there are not hatchery plants on this stream and the bulk of the native/wild run comes in February.
Nehalem River - North Fork - November 29th, 2005

It has been a disappointing season for Silver and Chinooks this fall for the North Fork but the anglers that regularly fished the stream did have successful days. However the Salmon season is over but this stream will receive a fresh group of Steelhead both hatchery and Wild as this weather system brings the river up.
Have you bobber/jigs, drift baits and spoons/lures ready. We expect a solid number of fish this next ten days so either from a boat of from the bank make sure you plan on this river for December and January. It always clears quickly after major storms. Note on jig fishing we always soak our jigs in Pautzke's Nectar. It works!! n.
Necanicum River - November 29th, 2005

The river as of today is perfect and with the expected rains this is going to be a great trip for late Chinooks and early winter steelhead. This stream will kick out good numbers of Steelhead from 5-12 pounds over the next few weeks.
Again Bobber/Jigs along with diver/bait and Plugs will be our main focus. We use both Quantum Rods and Reels and are very pleased with the quality and affordability. We do have a shuttle available on the Necanicum with a reservation the day before.
Gnat Creek - November 23rd, 2005

Are very low and waiting rain. Once it happens you will want to be there for a bank fishermen's dream. It can be crowded but worth it. Once the rain hits and Steelhead are in the system we'll give more insight.

Sixes River - November 21st, 2005

Just back from a quickie down on Elk & Sixes. Both rivers fished great for about five days as waters receded after the first major freshet. I only was down for one of these days, but we found plenty of aggressive biters. The rivers are extremely low and clear right now, a real bang and drag show if you're trying to float a drift boat. We fished Sixes River for a half day on Friday before leaving Port Orford and managed to boat 2 chrome fatties in the few shallow slots and dishes that remain. The few boats we talked to were really struggling too find fish. Fly fishing down low on these rivers can be very good during these low water intervals. The crabbing off the pier at Port Orford during the high tide is perhaps a much more productive option to Chinook fishing until the next big freshet. On the way back home, we did another half day on the mainstem Umpqua. We landed 2 dark Chinook and 1 chrome native Coho.........a little bit of action but nothing for the BBQ. I expect to be guiding on the Siletz tomorrow and the perhaps I'll head back down to the south coast after Turkey Day if rains cooperate. Happy Thanksgiving to all Fro ROARINGFORK GUIDE Service

Nehalem Bay - October 24th, 2005

October 24, 2005 Fishing report brought to you courtesy of Rob Russell, STS Magazine: It was a beautiful weekend in Tillamook County, though the fishing was generally slow. Only a handful of salmon entered the rivers after last week's rain while tidewater continued to fill up with fish and boats. There were a few good bites in Tillamook and Nestucca bays and a few fish caught in tidewater, but most boats went fishless. Tillamooks sloughs were holding a bunch of fish, but with crystal clear water, the fish were spooky and difficult. Nehalem Bay has slowed down considerably, but there are still some nice fish moving in. The Nehalem river is beginning to fill up with native silvers, but kings are few and far between.I fished the Nestucca and Wilson rivers this weekend, boating only 6 fish over three days. I never hooked a fish, but thankfully my clients got into a few. The Trask was very slow according to some reliable sources. So, for now, the bays and tidewater reaches are the best bet. The river has slowed down a bit but it's still receiving a lot of fishing pressure. Not a river for the guy who likes peace and solitude.
Trask River - October 2nd, 2005

The rains came, the rivers rose some then fell again today. The fish were really on the move not sticking in any one hole for long and surely were not much interested in biting. Some areas did better than others especially for those who decided to stick it out. Here's Tony, Scott, and Darwin with 5 chinook taken in the bay on a Big Moby spinner chartreuse/green dot. The largest two were 44# and 40#. For weather, expecting more showers tomorrow and again Wednesday through Friday. Should hear of more biting as the weather settles down. Good fishing to all, Marilyn
Columbia River - Lower - June 28th, 2005

We are in the middle of June and Lower Columbia River Sturgeon are in Full swing. Limits of gators 45" - 60" are being taken and some days we have cought over 40 fish out side the slot limit.
Fishing should continue until the close date of July 4th we have a few day trips and evening trips available. For us fishing the flats has been or best production and there is nothing like a big sturgeon hooked in shallow water!!!
Last weekend they reopened the Chinooks fishing on the lower Columbia and it was a surprise as to how good it was. Over the last several days good numbers of fish have been entereing the system and we have landed 12 chinooks in three trips. We have a few dates available in June for combo Salmon/Sturgeon trips. IN July we can book morning or evening Summer Salmon trips.
OCEAN Salmon is open for us in Garibaldi but we are staying on the Columbia until the 4th. But from the 4th of July on we will be fishing for Silvers and Chinooks out of the ports of Hammond and Garibaldi for ocean salmon on feeding frenzies.
These are great trips and provide lots of action and great fishgting fish. Weather does play a roll in the trips so we move to either Nehalem Bay or Columbia River if the weather pushes us off the ocean.
While July provides great fishing for Salmon and Steelhead, the Buoy 10 season is around the corner and booking for this season is filling up for our day trips and we still have space available for our evening trips.
