Trask River - October 2nd, 2005

The rains came, the rivers rose some then fell again today. The fish were really on the move not sticking in any one hole for long and surely were not much interested in biting. Some areas did better than others especially for those who decided to stick it out. Here's Tony, Scott, and Darwin with 5 chinook taken in the bay on a Big Moby spinner chartreuse/green dot. The largest two were 44# and 40#. For weather, expecting more showers tomorrow and again Wednesday through Friday. Should hear of more biting as the weather settles down. Good fishing to all, Marilyn
Columbia River - Lower - June 28th, 2005

We are in the middle of June and Lower Columbia River Sturgeon are in Full swing. Limits of gators 45" - 60" are being taken and some days we have cought over 40 fish out side the slot limit.
Fishing should continue until the close date of July 4th we have a few day trips and evening trips available. For us fishing the flats has been or best production and there is nothing like a big sturgeon hooked in shallow water!!!
Last weekend they reopened the Chinooks fishing on the lower Columbia and it was a surprise as to how good it was. Over the last several days good numbers of fish have been entereing the system and we have landed 12 chinooks in three trips. We have a few dates available in June for combo Salmon/Sturgeon trips. IN July we can book morning or evening Summer Salmon trips.
OCEAN Salmon is open for us in Garibaldi but we are staying on the Columbia until the 4th. But from the 4th of July on we will be fishing for Silvers and Chinooks out of the ports of Hammond and Garibaldi for ocean salmon on feeding frenzies.
These are great trips and provide lots of action and great fishgting fish. Weather does play a roll in the trips so we move to either Nehalem Bay or Columbia River if the weather pushes us off the ocean.
While July provides great fishing for Salmon and Steelhead, the Buoy 10 season is around the corner and booking for this season is filling up for our day trips and we still have space available for our evening trips.
Astoria Area - Saltwater - May 17th, 2005

Fishing the North Coast is heating up with more and more opportunities.
Sturgeon: The keeper season opened the 14th and we were excited to see the number of fish in the area. Many limits were taken and lots of Shorts kept us busy. The trick was to move quickly to find schools of keepers, 45" - 60", and once you did, 50+ inch fish were not uncommon.
Sand Shrimp was the go to bait as anchovies were limited in the availability for the first weekend. Word is this weekend all bait outlets will have anchovies but you need to call and reserve for sure. Last year Smelt, herring and squid also worked from my conversations.
We found our fish in 6-12 foot of water. But I also know of people fishing in the deeper holes and channels also caught fish. Make sure you get here and enjoy some of the best sturgeon action available anywhere.
Halibut: Weather is the current issue. Once people were able to get to the grounds fish were available and hungry. Halibut were also running bigger then last year it seemed with the largest from the trips we booked being 56 and several high 40's.
Herring, White plastics were the prime bait used and some fish were caught in 500 foot and even shallower.
Salmon: Tillamook Bay remains slow and that should change this next week with some good tides. Herring along the North Jetty and Coast Guard Station will be a good bet and Spinners in the upper bay. Word is the upper bay has changed and you need to be careful to ensure your salmon fishing vs. clamming ha ha.
We are waiting to see what the State is going to do regarding Summer run on the Columbia for June 1st if it opens it could be good but it is 50-50 at best.
Blind Slough was producing a few fish this week as my brother landed two nice Springer's and we heard of a few additional fish caught with little fishing pressure. Young's bay also has had very little pressure and we have only one report with three Chinooks landed.

Willamette River - May 10th, 2005

Spring Chinook are just barely arriving now in the southern tributaries to the Willamette River. With less than 20,000 fish over fish ladder at Oregon City, the first arrivals are now showing up in tha catch on the Middle Fork Willamette, North & South Santiam, and the McKenzie. I spoke to a number of guides working the South Santiam and the Middle Fork Willamette this past week. All reported 1 or 2 hook-ups per trip. The Mckenzie has seen little action so far. In the next week we expect to see some pushes of fish which should improve the numbers. The last 2 days of nonstop rain has got the rivers pretty high along with heavy reservoir releases intended to push smolts seaward. Look to see some new fish as the rivers recede.
Rogue River - Lower - March 24th, 2005

Hello fishermen; We did get some weather, but we are going to need a lot more to help us out . I have been fishing on the Rogue River just outside of Grants Pass. The river is also very low there. This is making the fishing tough there also. We are catching fish every day but not many of them. There does not seem to be any new fish moving into the river. Most of the fish we a catching are downers. The Steelhead have been averaging about 5 pounds with one over 8 pounds once in awhile. I have been drifting bait and a puff ball most of the time. If the water ever does come up the fishing on the upper river should be great. So a lot more rain would be great.
I also fished the Klamath again and did ok. We landed about a dozen fish from 10 inches to 22 inches. Five of these fish were Steelhead and the rest were Trout. We caught all the fish on bait. They really did not want to bite anything else. The Steelhead we did land were downers, so our future runs are going to be out there. If you are thinking of fishing these rivers be careful. They are very low, so there are a lot more rocks to hit. Hope to see you on the river. Albert
Hello fishermen; Well I am all done fishing on the Smith and Chetco Rivers for the season. It was a pretty good year. We could of used a lot more rain but I caught fish almost on every trip. There still are fish in the rivers but the clear conditions make it tough. I am now moving to the upper Klamath and Rogue Rivers. I will be fishing the late Steelhead on these rivers this month. These rivers are also pretty low but at least they do have more color in them. The Rogue is at 1700 cfs and the Klamath is at 800 cfs. Then in April I will start Fly fishing on the upper Klamath for the Rainbows. I will be using wet flies at first but as the weather turns warmer in May I will start fishing dry flies. At this time the weather is very nice but hopefully we will have a wet Spring. Hope to see you on the river. Albert

Now is the time to get after early returning Oregon Winter Steelhead! With water levels a little low right now, it's a great time to fish the Alsea River and the Umpqua River for these great fish.
My personal favorite Steelhead Fishing is on the Elk and Sixes Rivers. I find good action down there during the end of January through Mid-March. The best gauge to use is on the South Fk Coquille at Powers http://www.nwrfc.noaa.gov/river/station/flowplot/flowplot.cgi?POWO3 Look for levels between 2.5 -4"
Though the weather might be a bit wet and rainy, the winter is a great time to be Fishing Oregon Rivers.

Santiam River - November 23rd, 2004

The bountiful Fall harvest season for salmon sure gives us great reason to be thankful! It's definitely been a season to remember. The Siletz fished real good well into November. Last weekend we braved the cold on the South Santiam and managed to find one nice, bright recently-arrived steelhead among the beaters.
