Calawah River - January 27th, 2012
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service RECORDED:34 °FISHING: Excellent
The Calawah River is in good shape running at 2300cfs with 4ft of vis and dropping.
The Calawah has a good amount of hatchery fish with a fair amount of wild fish.
With the river running high the best techniques will be pulling plugs or side drifting.
If pulling plugs stick with T-4 Flatfish in silver, silver/red, flame red, grenn hornet, clair'a'belle, casper or flounder.
For the side drifter stick with 2 #2 vision hooks and a #8 corkie in flame red, chart/red, rainbow or chart/green dot. For bait fish eggs cured in Pink Borax-0-fire or Borax-o-fire cured prawns.
If looking for hatchery fish stay around the hatchery area, and for wild fish I would fish higher in the system. Remember that above the 101 bridge it is selective gear rules which means no bait and sinlge barbless hooks and no retenion of wild fish.
This will get better as the water continues to drop.

Hoh River - January 27th, 2012
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service RECORDED:34 °FISHING: Excellent
The Hoh River is in good shape running at 4130 cfs with 2 ft of vis and dropping.
The Hoh is full of hatchery fish with a fair amount of wild fish showing up. The hatchery fish seem to be stronger below the 101 bridge and the wild fish seem to be moving through the system quickly so the upper river is better for wild fish right now.

Remember that above the oxbow boat launch it is selective gear rules which means no bait and sinlge barbless hooks and no retenion of wild fish.
This will only get better over the next couple of days as the water drops.
Methow River - January 10th, 2012
supplied by: Somers Outdoors RECORDED:27 °FISHING: Poor
The Methow is CLOSED for fishing, the WDFW has closed it, here is the notice they posted on their website;
Hatchery steelhead, whitefish angling closes Jan. 2 on upper Columbia River and several tributaries
OLYMPIA - Most steelhead fisheries on the upper Columbia River will close Jan. 2 at 12:01 a.m. from Rock Island Dam to Chief Joseph Dam, as will steelhead fisheries on the Wenatchee, Icicle, Entiat and Methow rivers. Whitefish angling also will close Jan. 2 on the Wenatchee, Methow and Entiat rivers. However, steelhead and whitefish seasons will remain open until further notice on the Okanogan and Similkameen rivers, under previously published rules.Jeff Korth, the regional fish manager for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), said the closures are necessary to keep impacts on wild steelhead within limits established under the federal Endangered Species Act (ESA)."This year’s run is smaller than in recent years and contains a relatively high proportion of wild steelhead," Korth said. "Those factors, combined with steady angler effort, increased the rate of encounters with natural-origin fish this year."The federal permit authorizing the steelhead fisheries sets a maximum allowable mortality of natural-origin steelhead to accommodate variation in run strength and angling effort on specific waters. WDFW closely monitors the fisheries and enforces fishing rules to protect wild steelhead.Although anglers must release any wild, unmarked steelhead they intercept in area fisheries, some of those fish do not survive and are counted toward ESA impact limits. The primary reason the upper Columbia steelhead fisheries are permitted is to remove excess hatchery fish from spawning grounds, Korth said. In addition, those fisheries provide recreational opportunities and economic benefits for rural communities throughout the region.A portion of the hatchery steelhead that have not been harvested will over-winter in the Columbia River and return to tributaries in the spring, when they may again be targeted for harvest.WDFW fisheries managers are analyzing fishery impacts to date, and will produce a steelhead run update next month, Korth said. Some areas could be reopened at a later date for additional fishing opportunities, and anglers should keep a close eye on the WDFW website for these possibilities.Details on waters that will close to fishing for steelhead Jan. 2 until further notice include:
Mainstem Columbia River: From Rock Island Dam to 400 feet below Chief Joseph Dam.
Wenatchee River: From the mouth to the Wenatchee River at the Icicle Road Bridge, including the Icicle River from the mouth to 500 feet downstream of the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery Barrier Dam.
Entiat River: Upstream from the Alternate Highway 97 Bridge, near the mouth of the Entiat River to 800 feet downstream of the Entiat National Fish Hatchery.

Rock Lake - October 25th, 2011
supplied by: Swede's Fly Shop RECORDED:48 °FISHING: Excellent
Rock Lake is fishing extremely well right now. Olive leeches (with red hackle face) are yeilding the best results. Scuds also work really well, even though a lot of people don't fish them. Much to our surprise, most of the fish being caught are rainbows, and not browns. We're fishing about 1 mile down from the primitive boat launch on the left side of the lake, working our way back to the boat launch. Watch out on the right-hand side - there are underwater obstacles that can seriously damage your boat. Go down to the inlet stream for the best results (it's where all of the feed comes into the lake - even though this time of year the amount of feed is relatively small).
Grande Ronde River - October 18th, 2011
supplied by: Swede's Fly Shop RECORDED:65 °FISHING: Excellent
The Grande Ronde is fishing excellent right now, tons of reports coming in from our customers. You may have to fight the crowds on the weekends, but during the week is your best chance at a little solitude and more water for yourself. Come into the shop or give us a call for details on hot patterns and fly rod/line setups.
Sprague Lake - October 16th, 2011
supplied by: Swede's Fly Shop RECORDED:65 °FISHING: Fair
One of our regulars fished Sprague Lake with seven other fly fishermen on Sunday. The fishing was fair with most fishermen averaging two rainbow trout. Most were in the 16 to 19 inch range, but one was 24 inches long. Effective patterns were a black cone head woolybugger, an olive willy, a chartreuse woolybugger, and a prince nymph. Surface water temperature was 54F.
Amber Lake - October 14th, 2011
supplied by: Swede's Fly Shop RECORDED:54 °FISHING: Excellent
Black leech patterns on a full-sinking line are producing lots of beautiful fish. Float tubes, pontoons and canoes are best, seeing as how it is a non-motorized lake. Reports from clients are coming in that 2-fly droppers are producing well (olive willy on top and small beaded nymph on bottom). Don't forget to remove the barbs from all of your hooks prior to fishing.
Crab Creek - October 14th, 2011
supplied by: Swede's Fly Shop RECORDED:58 °FISHING: Good
Water is still flowing nicely and clarity is good. Lots of smaller fish on the BLM land are taking small leech patterns, scuds, ants and a few hoppers (terrestrials are starting to taper off a bit). There are a few monsters hiding under the cutbanks. Head north out of Ritzville on Marcellus Road to the west entrance of the BLM land. Hike in and follow the creek bed in search of the bends, runs and deeper sections. Sight fish.
