Bogachiel River - January 12th, 2011
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:
46 °
FISHING: Poor
The Bogachiel is in poor shape running at 29.71ft with 1ft of vis and rising fast.
The Hatchery winter steelhead are still coming in good numbers and will start to slow down over the next week or so but the wild fish numbers are picking up each day. The hatchery fish are spread out from the hatchery down to the mouth. The best fishing will be around the hatchery and down stream for the first couple of miles. If you are looking for wild fish concentrate your efforts a little higher for the early returning fish.
With this higher colored water the best techniques have been float fishing around hatchery or plug and diver/bait combo. If your float fishing stick with begger jigs in cerise, pink/white, white, white/peach, black/red and purple/pink. The best jigs are the marabou series Aero Jigs in this high water. I have also had some great success with floats and eggs. Use a cheater bait weight in 1/8oz in flame or pearl pink with steelhead orange, red or pink yarn. Use a more nautral colored eggs in the clear water.
If you are pulling plugs stick with K-9 kwikfish or my favorite X-4 flatfish. For the low clear flows stick with silver, silver/red dots, flame red, flounder, blue streak, green hornet or green weenie.
If you like to run divers and bait stick a brads diver or hot-n-tot with a 4ft leader and a aerofly and fresh sandshrimp.
Hatchery Steelhead slowing down but it will get better for wild fish in the next couple of weeks.
