Calawah River - January 10th, 2011
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:
33 °
FISHING: Great
The Calawah is in good shape running at 1420cfs with 6ft of vis.
Best fishing is right around the hatchery creeks. The best technique has been float fishing with either Aero Jigs in cerise, pink, pink/white, pink, peach or nightmare. Float fishing bait has been great. Stick with a 1/8oz cheater bait weight in flame, chart/flame, orange red scale and pink pearl. I have been using coastal cured eggs or 321 eggs in a slight pink color.
Wild fish starting to show in a few more numbers and will more each day. If looking for wild fish then concentrate your efforts a little higher up in the system.
Hatchery steelhead will still be good for a couple of more weeks and then the wild fish will take over.

FISHING: Excellent
Ther Calawah is in good shape running at 751cfs and dropping with 7 foot of vis.

For float fishing we have been using lots of Beau Mac jigs in Cerise, Pink/white and Cerise/white. Though my favorite is the Aero Jigs in Pink, Cerise and the Peach. I also use our own design of Black head pink and chartruese rabbit. I have had great luck on Mad River worms in pink with a chartruese head.
Fish are spread out from the mouth all the way past the forks. Remember that above 101 bridge it is selective gear rules.
Lots of Winter Steelhead stilll pouring in along with a fair amount of early Summer Steelhead stacking up around the lower river hatcherys. River is going to fish very good up till it's closure on the 30th of April.
