Cimarron River - June 9th, 2010
supplied by: The Reel Life
RECORDED:
90 °
FISHING: Excellent
Look for Cimarron hatches to get thicker, more complex, and more frequent. One of the state's richest streams should be popping out stones, PMDs, and the odd caddis, but crane nymphs will work too, and worms. Great time to prospect with a dry, big or small. I like the Palisades area, and I like midweek (if I can get out of this joint and go fish).

Cimarron River - May 26th, 2010
supplied by: The Reel Life
RECORDED:
79 °
FISHING: Excellent
Fish below Clear Creek and you'll find fish around the structure. Occasional risers make dry droppering a fun option. The only fly choice consideration that seems to matter at all is that you use a small nymph in your rig. Big stuff is working but only a fraction as well as the small. Oh, and brown worms are unbeatable.
Above the tribs, the water is very low and offers good potential for a nice day of dry fly fishing, from the Palisades on up.

Cimarron River - May 14th, 2010
supplied by: The Reel Life
RECORDED:
74 °
FISHING: Excellent
Water is low and fishable. Fish are fat and fishable. Lots of scuds in the water now, craneflies too and other aquatic squigglies. In other words, fish a brown worm, though I often like skittering a green caddis pupa. Do it before the crowds arrive. When they do, check out Coyote Creek below Black Lake. In the neighborhood.

Cimarron River - April 25th, 2010
supplied by: The Reel Life
RECORDED:
63 °
FISHING: Good
The Cimarron is producing some good fishing in the middle canyon. Though flows below the dam are now only .7cfs, the guage in Cimarron shows 60cfs so the tributaries are contributing along the way. Use scuds, San Juan Worms, cranefly larvae and stonefly nymphs for best results.

Cimarron River - March 18th, 2010
supplied by: The Reel Life
RECORDED:
54 °
FISHING: Excellent
Here's all you need to know: big scuds (#10), cranefly larvae, and red worms. Now's a great time to get on Cimmaroncita, when the weather's cool and the browns are stacked up. The regular river will we way low until they start releasing from Eagle Nest. Speaking of which, get ready to work the south coves of the lake as the ice melts out.

Cimarron River - October 21st, 2009
supplied by: The Reel Life
RECORDED:
41 °
FISHING: Excellent
Browns are extremely active right now, and they'll fall for a medium sized streamer or the nymph. There's good flow too (25cfs), for the fall, so take advantage. Think scuds, craneflies, baetis, and caddis worms. Cimarroncita is almost closed, so if you want to get on some sweet private water, call 505-376-2376; Alan Huerta will hook you up with a special rate - 150.00 per person for one night's lodging, food, and a day and a half of fishing.

Cimarron River - September 28th, 2009
supplied by: The Reel Life
RECORDED:
65 °
FISHING: Great
Look for baetis and surface action all day, though if you don't want to work that hard, prospect with your favorite dries and beadheads. You might want to cut to the chase and run a stimmy and a zebra midge or rainbow warrior. You'll catch a ton.
Lots of browns there, so beware of the clean gravel.

Cimarron River - August 26th, 2009
supplied by: The Reel Life
RECORDED:
74 °
FISHING: Great
Flows are in the 30s, which is nice for such a small stream. You'll want small flies beneath a hopper or a beetle. My pick for the nymph would be a zebra midge or a small copper or red copper john.

Cimarron River - July 27th, 2009
supplied by: The Reel Life
RECORDED:
79 °
FISHING: Excellent
Flows are in the 50's, and you can't ask for better than that. Snag the bottom a few times before you leave a pool. Sometimes flies are incredibly difficult to sink to level before the drift is over. Caseless green caddis are the ticket, stimulators alone or with a small copper john or secret.

FISHING: Excellent
Dry dropper. Lots of fish. End of story. Oh, and ants. Lots of ants.
