Dry dropper.  Lots of fish.  End of story.  Oh, and ants.  Lots of ants.

Cimarron River - May 29th, 2009

RECORDED:    59 °   FISHING: Excellent
Still scud season (big hamburger-sized gray things), though you might find more consistent action on your favorite cased caddis imitation.  Don't fish too fast, for the fish are pretty concentrated on the Cimarron.

RECORDED:    79 °   FISHING: Excellent
Caddis predominate these days, though whip out the scuds and cranefly larvae if you're striking out.  Try the dries, and consider heading downstream toward Ute Park.

Eagle Nest will be hopping for some time in the south bays, big fish too.

And now's the time to get on Coyote Creek; once the summer warms up, it's going to get sluggish.

till good, but pretty busy on weekends. Water flows are good below Eagle Nest Lake and fish have been responding heartily. Mayflies and caddis hatches daily.

Cimarron River - August 21st, 2004
supplied by: The Reel Life
FISHING: Fair
Cimmaron River:  Flows have stayed good--above 15cfs--for the past week, but check flows before driving over.  Lots of hatches, but fish are still demanding lighter tippets and slightly longer casts in late summer water.

Cimarron River - August 6th, 2004

Cimmaron River:  No change.  Flow less than 10cfs makes for tough fly fishing--there are so many fish that one bad cast will spook fish into running upstream and spooking others.  Crafty, sneaky approaches and smaller flies are catching fish.

Cimmaron River:  Reports below Eagle Nest Lake have been consistent and pretty good for those with small-stream skills.  Lots of hatches at 15cfs.

Owl Creek Pass is open, and the three forks are starting to clear!  Dry dropper riggs rule in the Cimarrons.  Try large attractors like chernybol ants and intrudes.  Traditional nymphs like pheasant tails, copper johns and hares ears work well.  Don't forget to explores the high alpine lakes!
