Clearwater River - September 27th, 2011
supplied by: Big R Fly Shop
RECORDED:
78 °
FISHING: Excellent
Fishing has been very good. The flows are down to 3090 cfs at Peck, ID. The last recon team landed 17 fish in two days on fly. Small flies and dry lines or intermediate tips are working great. Anything with peacock or polar bear in it is working (natural UV reflector) so I imagine some UV ice dub...etc..will also work. Good luck if you go. See you down there next weekend. Now that the clave is over there should be less people on the water and fishing we remain awesome until catch and kill opens.
The Snake, Ronde, and Salmon are also fishing great now!!!!

FISHING: Excellent
Fishing on the clearwater river has been awesome. Now the the levels are down to "normal". Fish can be taken on small patterns, skaters, and other variations. Floating lines or clear intermediate lines are the choice this time of year. Most colors work so fish what you feel confident in and hang on. See you down there! - Calvin

Clearwater River - September 15th, 2011

FISHING: Great
Flows dropped again today and they are down to 6560 cfs. The water temp is still very good hovering right around 53 degrees. Fishing dry lines or intermediate lines has been producing mutiple fish days. Fish are spread throughout the river and people are catching fish all the way up to Orofino. Over the next couple weeks the larger B-Run fish should start moving into the river. Fishing should just get better all the way up to October 15th. Good Luck out there.

FISHING: Good
The water is coming down. It dropped down to 10,400 cfs last night. Lots of fish are being caught in the lower river. Water temps are in the 50's so the fish should be very active once they hit the cooler water. Good Luck out there.. Things should just get better until catch and kill opens up.

FISHING: Good
The CW River is down to 12,700 cfs this morning. Flows are hopefully going to continue dropping slowly. There are a lot of fish around in the lower river and even some fish being caught up past Orofino. Fishing dry lines or intermediate lines with small flies has been producing for us. Even though the river is high, fish still hold in the same type of water. Just look for that broken surface walking speed water...and you should find some fish.
Good Luck!

Clearwater River - August 25th, 2011

FISHING: Good
We just got word from the dam(n) operators for the North Fork of the Clearwater River. They said "we are going to keep the dam open for the next 50 days." This means that higher water (16,000 cfs) will last for the next few weeks. This will open up new runs on the Clearwater. Don't be intimidated by the higher water, just search out new water. The fish will still hold in "fishy" looking water and they will still hold close to the bank. I think it will bring more fish into the Clearwater due to the cooler water. I am super stoked to be headed down with some of the Big R guys right before the catch & kill season opens.

Clearwater River - August 22nd, 2011
supplied by: Big R Fly Shop
RECORDED:
88 °
FISHING: Fair
The Clearwater River is still running around 16,000 cfs. Most of this water is coming from the North Fork, which is cold water. This should bring fish in from the Snake in a hurry! Fish are being caught all the way up to Orofino. Fishing Dry Lines or Intermediate lines with Smaller flies have been producing some nice fish. Marabou Madam's, Tiny Intruders, Polar Bear Wing flies are all working. Basically anything with Polar Bear and/or Peacock will out produce other flies. Good Luck! There should be fish arriving daily.

Clearwater River - July 29th, 2011

FISHING: Fair
The steelhead are coming....numbers over Boneville Dam are rising daily....7,172 fishing this morning. It is almost August. With the higher water and the heavy snow pack, things should be very good this year. The cooler water coming out of the North Fork will keep the mainstem clearwater cool all summer and fall. This cool water make steelhead happy. And when they are happy they eat...dries.
