Clearwater River - February 22nd, 2006
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:
44 °
FISHING: Great
The Clearwater is down low and very clear. Wild fish are spread from top to bottom. The lower river is going to have more fresh fish that come in on the tides. With the warmer weather the fish have moved in and are biting better.
Gear Tactics:
With the water down low and clear we tend to Pull Plugs or Float fish. If pulling plugs stick with small plugs in Silver, Green, Silver/Black, Blue and Pale Orange. Float Fish with Eggs or Jigs.
This will get better with a little more water.

Clearwater River - October 24th, 2005
supplied by: Snake River Guide Service
FISHING: Fair
Steelhead fishing on the Clearwater this past week has been difficult. Warm weather and low flows have made finding willing fish a problem. Persistence and being able to adapt has been the key to success. The fish that are being caught have been of excellent quality and their size has been impressive. The Clearwater River is very low and this past week a number of boats have hit rocks and others have been removed from bars. This has happened to both professional as well as personal fishers. Do not take this river for granted - the water is very low, bars have moved and there are hazards through out the entire system.

Clearwater River - October 7th, 2005
supplied by: Snake River Guide Service
FISHING: Good
The Clearwater has been fishing well in the lower half of the river and we are seeing good numbers of b-run fish already. The entire river opens for retention the 15th of this month. Those fishers that are fishing the catch and keep area below Memorial Bridge are finding the flows hard to drift with the high water levels in the Snake. The information we have been getting is one fisher says fishing is poor and someone else will say they had great luck.Guess that's why they call it fishing.

Clearwater River - January 14th, 2005

FISHING: Great

The Clearwater is fishing quite well from Lewiston to Orofino, water temps are low (34 to 35 deg.) and the bite is difficult-but the fish are taking baits. Plug fishing is much less productive than drifting roe or running baits behind a diver. The majority of the B-run fish are now in the main river and fishing should hold up well until we see a warming trend and some increased flows and rising water temps, when this hits the fish will move to the terminal areas (Dworshak Hatchery and the upper section around Clear Cr.), as the fish stack in these areas it will be some fast action for those who don't mind crowded fishing (bring your own rock!).
The Snake has also been fishing fair, it has not been as productive as past years but the last couple of weeks has been good for the persistent fishers willing to work the deeper holes. The hotspot on the Snake has been the upper stretch near Hells Canyon Dam-this area started early and is still the best of the Snake.Bank anglers should check out the Grande Ronde, it is producing well all the way from the Shumaker area to the Oregon line and beyond. This fishery will really get going in the Cottonwood area in March and April but anytime between now and then is a good time to fish the river and miss the crowds.

STEELHEAD- With the recent rains new fish have been moving into the Clearwater. Some really bright, nice fish are now being taken. With close to another 20,000 fish in the pools below us, it appears that our area will have another wonderful season. The Snake River has also been producing good numbers of fish from Asotin to Heller Bar and above. -We've got a great season ahead of us-

STEELHEAD- The Clearwater has been fishing well over the past few weeks and we are seeing the first of the B-run arriving in the lower river. With only a couple of weeks until the general opener on the main stem Clearwater it is looking very good for the Oct. and November fishery. The Snake is giving up a few fish at this time from Asotin to Heller Bar and should start producing good numbers of fish in the next 2 weeks. Fish counts are excellent at all of the ladders on the Snake and Columbia and it looks like we will have fewer fish wintering in the down river segment-which means more fish in our area!!

Clearwater River - August 29th, 2004

FISHING: Great

STEELHEAD- With the recent cool weather and a significant drop in water temps (6 to 7 degree drop on the Snake) the fish are finally starting to move up from the lower Snake and Columbia reservoirs. We expect to see some great fishing in the next few weeks as the fish move up and congregate in the lower Clearwater prior to heading up the Snake, with the early change in temps we may see an earlier than normal fishery on the Snake as well. With the arrival of the B-run in late Sept. and October the Clearwater will come into its' own-the average Clearwater fish will run between 12 and 15 lbs. with good numbers of larger fish.
