Cowlitz River - August 29th, 2012
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:    69 °   FISHING: Excellent
Cowlitz in good shape running at 3250cfs with 4ft of vis.

Steelhead and Kings are finning the river right now.

The Steelhead numbers are starting to slow but still plenty around to give some excitement. Been mostly sidedrifting for them with 2 #4 vision hooks and corky in red, Chart/red dot, glo green, pink, and rainbow with a small glob of Pautzke cured eggs in Fire Cure.

The Kings have started to coming in big  numbers. Most have been caught while sidedrifting for steelhead with the same gear. This will get better over the next week and then we will switch to hover fishing and back bounceing.

The next week will really pick up on the kings.

Cowlitz River - August 24th, 2011
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:    80 °   FISHING: Excellent
The Cowlitz is in great shape running at 4980cfs with 5 ft of vis.

Summer steelhead and Fall chinook are spread out  from the mouth all the way to the Barrier Dam.

For Summer Steelhead the best techniques have been sidedrifting or diver and bait fishing. If you are sidedrifting stick with two #3 vision hooks and #10 corkie inthe middle. The best colors have been red, chart/red dots, rainbow, glo green and pearl pink. Eggs in bright red are the best color with a little shrimp scent on them.

If you are diver and bait fishing, fish a small brads diver with a 5 ft leader and a coon stripe prawn.

Salmon are just begining to show in numbers. The best techniques for salmon have been sidedrifting or diver and eggs. If you are sidedrifting stick with two #2 vision hooks and a #8 corkie in Chart/red, flame red, glo green, rainbow and egg flourescent with bright red eggs.

If you are diver and bait fishing then stick with a #20 Luhr Jensen diver and a 5ft leader and a #5/0 vision hook. I like eggs in cured Pautzke fire cure with some Pautzke necter sprayed on it.

Steelhead will slow down over the next week or so and salmon will continue to get better each day.

Cowlitz River - September 12th, 2010
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:    72 °   FISHING: Great
Cowlitz is in great shape running at 3590 cfs with 6ft of vis.

The Kings and Silvers are making there way up the river in good numbers. The salmon are spread out from the mouth all the way to the Barrier dam.

In all the slow water guys are trolling wiggle warts in the fire tiger patter or Met Pink and catching silvers. You can drift fish or sidedrift eggs in the faster water spots for silvers also.

The kings are mostly in the deeper holes so hover fishing eggs and shrimp has been very good. For the guys who like sidedrifting it has been great when working the deeper flats and holes with eggs in red color with good amount of scent on them.

Kings are running strong and will continue to for another couple of weeks. The silvers are just showing up in good numbers in the last couple of days and will get stronger over the next couple of weeks peaking in early october.

Cowlitz River - August 25th, 2010
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:    94 °   FISHING: Excellent
Cowlitz is in great shape running at 4780cfs with 5 ft of vis.

Mouth of Cowlitz has been on fire and getting better each day.

With the rise in the water level it has really spurred the fish into biting better and has also moved more fish into the lower end of the river.

Few summer steelhead around Blue Creek and Barrier Dam. Best technique has been pulling pink or purple coon stripe shrimp behind a hot-n-tot. Fish the little faster deeper holes for your best fishing.

Side drifting is also still fishing very good. Stick with a #2 vision hook with a small chunk of yarn and small cluster of eggs or small piece of Shrimp.

Lots of Chinook showing up every day down at the mouth. Anchor fishing has been good when anchoring in 10' to 25' of water with a Flame red u-20 flatfish or a coon stripe shrimp and spin-n-glo. When the tide comes in swith to trolling spinners in a 50/50 or flame red #5colorado blade.

There have been loys of early chinook showing up already and with the forecast of a huge return of chinook i will not be surprised if we start seeing them show early.
