Deschutes River - Lower - June 20th, 2011
supplied by: Deschutes River Outfitters
FISHING: Great
Salmon fly and golden stones are on downward spiral, BUT as of yesterday still getting them eat even down low. Bulk of action is up high ( Warm Springs). Late in the hatch these fish have been there done that. Pull out your stealth salmon fly manuers, aka get deep in the nooks and crannies. It will start to wrap up any day. Have no fear Caddis, PMDs', Yellow Sallies and other little tidbits are filling in on the buffet line. Seeing fish start to work them. Pull a couple rows of big bugs out of the box and fill in with the little dudes. We are about to hit summer caddis mode. Might be harder to see that dry after size 4,6,and 8's, but it is all good. For great caddis action we need the sun to start blazing and get things cranking.

FISHING: Good
Deschutes River Redside Trout Report:
Trout fishing is good! There are those off and on times like any other day but for the most part, its been fun!
The Golden Stone hatch is still happening, good numbers of the big boys from Maupin up to Warm Springs. A few Salmon flies still hanging around, but they have faded slightly in numbers. Adults are active throughout the late morning untill dark. Green Drakes are hatching midday with good results. Lots of other may flies popping in the afternoon, PMD’s & PED’s shoud be in the air from 1 until 3 PM.
Clarity has improved, green color,15 feet visibility and fishes good all day long. You will find trout feeding on dries, wets, and nymphs in back eddies, inside current seams, fast water pockets and steep bank runs. Be mindful, that with these high water levels, the grass hummocks along the bank will be under water in most areas. Make your cast just to the outside of them, and find trout laying there in anticipation of food.
Igloo Case Building Caddis, (20’s) Free Living caddis,(14’s) Mahogany duns,(16’s) PMD’s,(16’s) and PED’s (12)’s are hatches that are in good numbers and should be fished if the big bugs aren’t working. Don’t forget about midge, they hatch all year long, and if you don’t mind fishing these (18’s) (20’s) (22’s) in the slow water, you can sometimes save the day.
A good plan is to take a few moments to study and look for rising or sipping trout in back eddies, and slack water, just inside a current edge that forms a food gathering seam. Nothing there? No sweat, head for the tree lines and work your way up stream at a good pace. Have fun !!!
If you have Q’s, Please don’t hesitate to call, John Smeraglio, Nate Morris, or Joe Ringo, ... We’d be glad to help!

Deschutes River - Lower - June 10th, 2011

FISHING: Great
Grab your gear and head on down, because it's on at the Lower Deschutes! Salmon flies and golden stones are out and about, and fish know it. The guides have had great success with stonefly dries the last two weeks on the Warm Springs to Trout Creek stretch. Our head guide Dan Anthon has given us the chance to see first hand how easy it is to throw big bushy stonefly dries with the Rio Gold fly line. A great rod for the lower section of the deschutes is the Sage 99, not only because of the extra 9 inches, but also the open loops thrown due to the specific taper design. The wider open loops give the caster the ability to chuck big ugly nymph setups which usually consist of an indicator, split shot, stonefly and dropper setup.
Along with the stoneflies are the PMD's and PED's, followed by a good caddis and rusty spinner hatch. The lower Deschutes can be a rough place to get the hang of, so don't hesitate to give us a call and book a guide to help you figure that place out.

Deschutes River - Lower - June 10th, 2011
supplied by: Deschutes River Outfitters
FISHING: Great
Salmon fly and golden stone action continues. Getting light toward Maupin, but still got them to eat the big bugs yesterday. Plenty of caddis showing up and fish starting to work them. Time to make some room in the boxes for PMD's, Caddis and little Yellow Sallies.
Big Bugs still pretty thick around Warm Springs. Clarity is better and level is decent. Fishing has been good. We are the down ward side of the hatch though. Hard to say how long we'll be able to throw the big stuff. Enjoy it while you can. We have just a few days open and just a few days left to get 2011 hatch.
Caddis is coming and hopefully solid summer weather. July is a great time for summer float trips, if you are wondering what to do this summer it is a great trip.

Deschutes River - Lower - June 4th, 2011
supplied by: Radditz Sipler Outfitters (RSO)
RECORDED:

FISHING: Great
The Salmonfly hatch is in it's prime right now, at least on part of the Lower Deschutes. Warm Springs down to the Locked Gate has been outstanding on the warmer, drier afternoons. Morning have not been red hot as the bugs aren't really active then, but a dry-dropper setup has done the job. The rainy days have been producing BWO's, PMD's, and some Green Drakes as well. With the river down at 5800cfs and warmer weather in the forecast I know where I will be this week.

Deschutes River - Lower - June 3rd, 2011
supplied by: Deschutes River Outfitters
FISHING: Good
Water looked like it was dropping and still continues to fish pretty darn good. Big bugs thick around Warm Springs and tapering toward Maupin, but fish still looking up. Warmer weather and lowering river and should continue to fish well. The last couple days where pretty darn good. Seeing more caddis and scattered PMDs. Get out and enjoy before the big ones are gone. Sounds like the last report, but it has been pretty consistent from decenent to real good the last 8 days. Still cover lots of trees and banks and keep looking.
