RECORDED:    79 °   FISHING: Great
Despite some rain in the morning, fishing was fantastic yesterday.  Leeches and streamers early, then switching to caddis and cranefly larvae subsurface, and finally finishing off in the evening with some dry fly fishing on smaller foam beetles, caddis and cranefly dries.

Waters are in good shape overall, with only a couple stained this morning, the rest are running clear and cool.

RECORDED:    68 °   FISHING: Good
Rain this morning should clear out of the area by noon.  It is not enough rain to mess up the streams permanently, but expect a stain and rising water this morning and possibly into the afternoon.

Scuds, pink squirrels and san juan worms will be the food of choice in the rising waters.

Into the weekend the cranefly bite will be back on with fish feeding in riffles and runs below the riffles.  Splashy rises indicate cranefly or caddisfly feeding fish.

Do not forget to twitch, skitter, and skate your flies, both surface and subsurface.  This has been the trigger lately as the fish are responding to movement.

RECORDED:    79 °   FISHING: Great
Fishing has been very good, even with bluebird skies.

Craneflies and midges are hatching like crazy and fish are up in the riffles feeding.  There are a handful of tan caddis popping here and there, as well as some sporadic mayflies and stoneflies coming off throughout the day too.

We have had great success fishing a high visibility foam fly, such as a beetle or foam bodied caddis, with a nymph dropper.  Subsurface fishing has been really solid on anything gray with a thick body (think hare's ear style) as well as pheasant tails and brightly colored nymphs and scuds.

Leeches and streamers have been working well early in the mornings, and later in the day when the sun is not directly on the water.

RECORDED:    74 °   FISHING: Good
Fishing was really solid yesterday despite the bright sun.  Fish were eating subsurface on cranefly larvae, thicker bodied patterns fished deep, and pheasant tails.

Surface action was hot on beetles, caddis, craneflies, and some larger foam patterns.  Don't fear the foam, it is starting to catch quite a few fish, even the larger patterns.

Waters are clear, with temps in the mid 40s to high 50s.

RECORDED:    86 °   FISHING: Good
Tempted to rate the fishing better, but today's hot sunny weather might keep the fishing as good not great.

Craneflies have been hatching and getting some larger fish rising.  If you see splashy rises, the fish are probably eating craneflies.

Subsurface fishing has been hot lately too with fish eating smaller, thin bodied bugs twitched along undercut banks, and scuds and other thicker bodied patterns rolled along the bottom in deeper holes.

With the bright sun, find some shade and you will find more active fish.

Waters are clear, and temps are in the mid 40s to mid 50s.

RECORDED:    52 °   FISHING: Good
Clear streams and great water temps mean the fishing will be good.  Today will be very windy with things calming down tomorrow.

Craneflies have been very good lately, as have caddis skittered and skated across the riffles.

Fishing with leeches and streamers has been solid early in the mornings, then switching to a dry or dry with a dropper mid day will pick up fish.

Things are really starting to click in the Driftless!

We saw significant numbers of craneflies yesterday, as well as tan and black caddis.  A rainy day bonus olive hatch also came off.

Despite light rain all day yesterday, our streams are clear and flowing very well.  Water temps are in the 50s and fish are feeding in both the runs, and the riffles now.

Caddis, craneflies, generic mayflies, and smaller foam flies are working on the surface.

Subsurface cranefly larvae, pheasant tails, and anything gray to brown with a thicker profile (caddis and cranefly larvae) as well as midge larvae and orange soft hackles are doing the trick.

RECORDED:    66 °   FISHING: Good
Cloudy and drizzly today.  A needed break from the high sun in the sky.

Caddis have been hatching, and fish have started to move up into the riffles to feed.  A foam pattern with a small dropper in the riffles has been very effective.

Subsurface flies have been best in smaller sizes 16-20 and fished slowly in the deeper pools and lunker structures.

Streamers and leeches will be very effective today too while the clouds stay overhead.

RECORDED:    75 °   FISHING: Good
Tan caddis are starting to show up in numbers and fish are looking up.  Midges and crane flies as well as a handful of mayflies and even terrestrials fill the surface bug list.

Subsurface bugs have been more effective in smaller sizes due in part to the bright sun.

waters are crystal clear and temps are in the high 40s to mid 50s.

RECORDED:    54 °   FISHING: Good
Warm and sunny weather has the caddis bouncing around and fish looking up!

Caddis dries, smaller foam attractors, ants and beetles are all catching fish on the surface, especially in the deeper runs below riffles.

Subsurface fishing has been solid on scuds and pink squirrels as well as caddis pupae and smaller pheasant tails.

Waters are clear and water temperature is in the high 40s to mid 50s.
