Hoh River - January 27th, 2012
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:    34 °   FISHING: Excellent
The Hoh River is in good shape running at 4130 cfs with 2 ft of vis and dropping.

The Hoh is full of hatchery fish with a fair amount of wild fish showing up. The hatchery fish seem to be stronger below the 101 bridge and the wild fish seem to be moving through the system quickly so the upper river is better for wild fish right now.

With the river running high the best techniques will be pulling plugs or side drifting. If pulling plugs stick with T-4 Flatfish in silver, silver/red, flame red, grenn hornet, clair'a'belle, casper or flounder.

For the side drifter stick with 2 #2 vision hooks and a #8 corkie in flame red, chart/red, rainbow or chart/green dot. For bait fish eggs cured in Pink Borax-0-fire or Borax-o-fire cured prawns.

Above 101 you can side drift Mad River worms in bubble gum pink, flr orange, methalate or pink/chart tails.

Remember that above the oxbow boat launch it is selective gear rules which means no bait and sinlge barbless hooks and no retenion of wild fish.

This will only get better over the next couple of days as the water drops.

supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:    28 °   FISHING: Excellent
The Hoh River is in good shape running at 1400 cfs with 4 ft of vis and dropping.

The Hoh is full of hatchery fish with a fair amount of wild fish showing up. The hatchery fish seem to be stronger below the 101 bridge and the wild fish seem to be moving through the system quickly so the upper river is better for wild fish right now.

The best techniques for a few days will be to Pull Plugs, side drift or drift fish.

Pulling plugs will be the best method for a few days. I like to use Faltfish in x-4 or t-4 sizes in Silver, Flame red, clair-a-belle, silver /red, flounder, dr. death and Green Hornet.

If you are a side drifter or drift fisherman stick with bigger corkies in Flame red, Chart/red and rainbow colors. Add a piece of bait like eggs cured in Pautzke Borax-o-fire in pink or red. I like to cut my baits a little bigger for the meduim flows.

Remember that above the oxbow boat launch it is selective gear rules which means no bait and sinlge barbless hooks and no retenion of wild fish.

This will only get better over the next couple of days as the water drops.
