Hoh River - July 26th, 2011
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:    63 °   FISHING: Great
The Hoh is in great shape running at 2020cfs with 3 ft of vis.

The Hoh has Summer Steelhead and summer chinook spread out from spruce creek all the way to the mouth.

With the water high the best techniques have been pulling plugs for catching both species. the best plugs have been T-4 or U-20 Flatfish in silver, silver/red dots, flame red, blue scale, met pink, Mr, bill, Double trouble, fickle pickle or california watermellon.

Can only keep hatchery fish in both species. Be carefull around minnie petersons with a sweeper jusr down stream.

Kings will be slow for next month but steelhead will get better in next couple weeks and when water drops a little lower.

Hoh River - March 20th, 2011
supplied by: Puget Sound Fly Company, LLC
RECORDED:    47 °   FISHING: Great
Fishing on the Penninsula is hot right now. Flows are dropping/have dropped and there are plenty of wild fish in the system right now. Nymphing and Swinging are both effective right now and keep your eyes on the rivers between a good compromise between low enough and 'not too clear'... The bogachiel and Hoh have been red hot, but as these rivers drop even more fish will spreadout in the system. Short bursts of rain may push more fish in so keep your eyes on weather and get a kitchen pass. Now is the time.

Hoh River - February 1st, 2011
supplied by: Dickson Flyfishing Steelhead Guides
RECORDED:    44 °   FISHING: Good
The Hoh is coming off a high water on the 29th and starting to drop into shape. The River level is dropping from 2300 now. With the dry forecast the river will be fishable all week. The hatchery fishing will slow down soon. Wild fish are starting to show and some nice fish are being caught now. The earlier fish are known for being the bigger fish. The river has around 3 feet of visibility and will get better every day. Look for fishing to continue to get better for wild fish as the month continues.

We are swinging flies with #2 hooks. I use 3.5 to 5 inch flies when in cloudy water. Most flies are articulated with gamakatzu octopus hooks.

My favorite colors for flies are bubble gum pink, pink and purple, white, white and pink, and orange. When the visibility is 4+ feet blue/purple and black is also a great colors. I like to add a little crystal flash tied into the tail.

Hoh River - January 28th, 2011
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:    42 °   FISHING: Good
The Hoh River is in poor shape running at 2660cfs with 2' of vis and dropping fast.

High but dropping into nice shape. Plenty of native steelhead moving through the system and spread out all the way through. Still a few hatchery fish around but they should start slowind down in the next week or so. With the water level that we have right now concentrate your efforts in the upper river.

The best techniques have been puling plugs or sidedrifting. If you are a plug puller stick with T-4 or X-4 flatfish in silver, silver/red dots, flame, flame/red dots, Dr. Death, cop car, green hornet or green weenie.

If you are sidedrifting above the oxbow campground sidedrift a Aero fly marabou series in pink, pink/white, white/orange, red, black or purple. You can also fish a 6inch Mad River worm in cerise/chart tail, pink or flour orange with a wordens winner bobber in Pink, White or Chart on the front.

If you are sidedrifting below the oxbow campground then stick with 2 #3 vision hooks with a Wordens Corkie in Flame, Pink, Chart/red dots or rainbow with a glob of coastel or 321 eggs in a slight pnk color.

This will be very good when the river drops down and will get better each day.

The Hoh River is in poor shape running at 5880cfs with 0' of vis and rising fast.

Out of shape right now with due to this weeks rain but dropping back down. The plunkers are getting them real good but still a little high for drifting yet. When it comes back down after a week of no rain it should be great with lots of hatchery fish still around and quite a few natives starting to come in.

Hoh River - January 3rd, 2011
supplied by: Puget Sound Fly Company, LLC
RECORDED:    35 °   FISHING: Good
The Hoh River is on the drop with plenty of fish starting to push in to the system. While January isn't necessarily considered a 'hot' month for the Hoh, pressure is low and flows can be slightly more consistent. Look for flows under 2500 for floating or wading and match color and size to water clarity.

3 for 5 with 3 hatchery fish and 1 wild fish.
