Hoh River - January 23rd, 2009
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:    48 °   FISHING: Good
Hoh on good shape running at 1820 and 2.5 ft of vis.

It is in great shape from the park line down to Oxbow campground. Lower river is still a little colored but should clear up in a day or two.

One of the best techniques will be to fish big Bright  plugs like T-4 flatfish in silver, silver red stripes, Flame, Red Devil, Cop Car, White- red and Flounder

I will also be fishing some big 6" rubber worms in Pink, Cerise- chartruece tail, metholate and Flour Orange. You can fish them under a float, Drift Fish  or side drift them in the upper river.

Remember that above the oxbow campground that it is selective gear which means no bait or scent, single barbless hook and no retention of wild fish.

Lots of big wild fish showing up in here, so now is the time to look at fishing this one. Look out for lots of changes in river as you float it. Please be Carefull.

Hoh River - January 19th, 2009
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:    32 °   FISHING: Fair
Hoh on poor shape running at 2550 and 1.5 ft of vis.

It is dropping down after the snow melt is slowing down. Should be dropping and clearing better each day. From the park line down to spruce creek the vis is better and is producing some fish already but is a fairly short drift.

When this one drops into shape we should see a few of those hatchery fish that were in there still around along with some fresh ones and there will be plenty of wild fish to chase.

There are going to be alot of changes in the river so look out for sweepers and new log jams and possible new river channels.

Best techniques will be to fish big Bright  plugs like T-4 flatfish in silver, silver red stripes, Flame, Red Devil, Cop Car, White- red, School Bus and Flounder

I will also be fishing some big 6" rubber worms in Pink, Cerise- chartruece tail, metholate and Flour Orange. You can fish them under a float, Drift Fish  or side drift them in the upper river.

The upper river will come into shape first and will be the place to be. Remember that above the oxbow campground that it is selective gear which means no bait or scent, single barbless hook and no retention of wild fish.

Cant hardly wait for this to be fishable all the way down to the bridge.

Hoh River - January 3rd, 2009
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:    33 °   FISHING: Excellent
Hoh is in okay shape running at 1860 cfs and dropping and 3 ft of vis.

River is dropping with the cold weather.  Best bites will be in the afternoons with this cold weather.

Hoh is fishing good with both Hatchery and Wild Steelhead stretched out from park boundry down to barlows. The best fishing has been taking place from the spruce creek down to oxbow.

Above the oxbow campground in the upper river the best techniques have been pulling plugs in size X-4 and T-4 Flatfish. The best colors have been Silver, Silver Metallic clown, TJ Special. flame red, red dog, Dr. Death and Flounder. As water drops and clers drop down to X-4 Flatfish for Hatchery Steelhead.

Caught quite a few Steelhead on Worms already. Sidedrifting 6" mad River Worms in Bubblegum, Cerise,Char tail or flourescent orange have been the best colors.

Floats with either a 1/4 ounce large Pink, Pink/White or Pink/Char  jigs or  1/8 once head in White or Char with a 4" Mad River worm in Cerise/char tail or Bubblegum pink have been producing very good.

Below the oxbow campground where bait is allowed the best techniques have been sidedrifting Eggs or Prawns on a couple of #3 vision hooks with a Clown, Flame red or Rainbow Beau Mac Cheater. Or pulling plugs like the ones above have also been good producers.

The hatchery will stay strong until mid January and the Wild fish runs will just get better each day.

Remember that above the oxbow campground it is special regulations which means no bait, single barbless hooks, no scent and no retaining wild fish.
