Hoh River - January 3rd, 2007
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:    43 °   FISHING: Poor
The Hoh is very high  and muddy.

We need a long dry period for this to come into shape and see what we have in the way of river changes.

The reports from the Indians is that there are plenty of native fish showing up and a fair amount of late Kings.

The upper river will the first one to clear so concentrate your efforts on the upper river above 101 bridge. Do remember thogh that the upper river is selective regulations

Hoh River - December 20th, 2006
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:    45 °   FISHING: Poor
River is high and dirty and on it's way back up. Wait for  a week of dry weather for this one.

Very few hatchery fish in here right now along with a few early native fish. Upper river is going to fish better as water clears . Fish plugs or drift gear for early hatchery fish. Fishing will get better as water level drops and gets a little clearer.

Remember that upper river from Oxbow Campground to park line is selective regulations, no bait, single barbless hook and no retension of wild fish.

Watch out on your first float down the river as there are lot of changes. Also check your boat launches. There are several boat launches that are no longer useable. Nolan Creek boat launch  is toast. Cotten wood is still okay but nothing in between there and Barlow's.

Hoh River - November 30th, 2006
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:    45 °   FISHING: Poor
Was dropping into shape but went back out with a little rain.

All the Boat ramps are screwed up on this river do to high waters. We need this one to settle down a little while before we know what is up.

Please be very carefull when floating this for the first time after alll the high water. Will be lots of changes and new splits.

Should be Winter Steelhead in river when she comes in.

 Remember Salmon is closed.

Hoh River - October 17th, 2006
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:    55 °   FISHING: Good
Hoh Is low but in good shape for this time of year.

Summer Steelhead has been descent. Summer runs are spread thought out river from top all the way to tide water. Fishin smaller flies has been the ticket, Try colored flies early and late in the day and the switch over to dark flies during the day. Nymph fisherman have had good success with a 8mm or 10mm trout bead under an indicator, Dont be surprised to catch a lot of Doly Varden when fishing this way ( dont take them out of the water as they are protected).

For the Gear fisherman you might try throwing some small #3 spinners in dark colors or a small float and dark colored jig or a small cluster of Red eggs, (keep it small).

River has had come up a little but we anxiously await the arrival of the fall Chinook and Silver that will first be seen in the Hoh. When looking for the first arriving fish , fish down close to tidewater. Start with spinners or floats and eggs. If fishing from a boat you might try cut plug herring. Look for these fish to arrive later in the month, with a few fish coming early.

First good rain we have will bring in the Salmon and Summer Steelhead will bite better.

Hoh River - March 9th, 2006
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:    44 °   FISHING: Excellent
Hoh is out of shape right with the recent rains but with cooler weather coming it should be in by Saturday. Fish are spread around from upper river all the way to bottom of river. A bunch of new fish are showing up and are spread all the way through the system.

Remember that whole river is Selective gear rules with no retention of wild fish..

Gear Tactics:

The three primary tactics are Plug Pulling, Side Drifting or Floatfishing. If pulling plugs then stick with all sizes of plugs in Silver, Silver/Red, Flame Red, White/Red, Dr. Death, Green, or Blue. In Lower River side drift with eggs and in Upper River you can Side Drift wth Worms, Corky and Yarn, Gooey Bobs or other fake eggs. Float fisherman tend to fish either with worms or Jigs in Upper River or Jigs and Bait in Lower River.

Fly Tactics:

Most of the fly fishing is done in the Upper River where you don't have to compete with the bait fisherman, but check out the lower River as there some great Fly runs down there. Stick with Bigger flies in the Hoh. We like to use Black, Purple, Orange, Red and Pink. The Skagit Monster in my favorite with the Steel Wooly, General Practioner, Hare Ball Leech and Intruders as my second choice. In the Pockets we fish with lead eye nymphs in Cotton Candy, Pink, Pink/White and Orange with a 2 foot dropper with a glo bug or trout bead.

This one is real good right now and will only geat better each day.
