FISHING: Great
Jemez Area Streams: No changes. Waters are low and warming fast. Lower watersheds are fishing well, headwaters are getting more tricky--lighter tippets and smaller dries.

Jemez Area Streams - June 4th, 2005

FISHING: Good
Jemez Area Streams: Quite good over last weekend. Stoneflies are flying throughout the Jemez. Also look for mayflies, cicadas and rising fish in many streams. Creeks are full and somewhat colored, but fishable in most stretches. Lower elevations (Guadalupe, lower Jemez) still too high

Jemez Area Streams - May 21st, 2005

FISHING: Good
Jemez Area Streams: Good reports from Fenton Lake and Cebolla below Fenton. Fairly good reports from the San Antonio and all the upper accesses on the East Fork, too. Creeks are full and most fish still on beadhead nymphs, but we're looking ahead to mayflies and stoneflies!

Jemez Area Streams - April 22nd, 2005
supplied by: The Reel Life
FISHING: Good
Jemez Area Streams: The Jemez gauge is 640 cfs which is big. If you're headed that direction, you might try Fenton Lake instead--fishing for stockers was good last week.

Area Lakes: Fair at McAllister, some fat fish if you can get out between windstorms with streamer patterns. Try Santa Cruz for stockers--if you don't want to get your feet wet, there are a few spots around the shoreline for high backcasts or roll casting. There was a big one caught there last week. Fair reports for crappie, pike and smallmouth at Cochiti, trout at Abiquiu Lake and carp (yes, carp) at El Vado.

Jemez Area Streams - April 7th, 2005

FISHING: Poor
Jemez Area Streams: The Jemez gauge is 166cfs which is big by normal standards. Yea! Water!

Area Lakes: Getting better. Fair to good at McAllister, some fat fish if you can get out between windstorms with streamer patterns. Better reports from Santa Cruz for stockers--if you don't want to get your feet wet, there are a few spots around the shoreline for high backcasts or roll casting. Decent for pike and smallmouth at Cochiti, trout at Abiquiu Lake.

Jemez Area Streams - April 1st, 2005

FISHING: Fair
Sangre de Cristo Streams: No change: very cold. Dirty water in Embudo.

Chama River Watershed: Water levels at both dams have remained stable the past week, but dirty water is reported below El Vado with slow fishing.

Jemez Area Streams: A sunny day and this area is starting to melt out--right on schedule, but it makes for hit-and-miss fishing.

Area Lakes: Same. Slow at McAllister, but fat fish if you can get out between windstorms. Better reports from Santa Cruz for stockers--if you don't want to get your feet wet, there are a few spots around the shoreline for high backcasts or roll casting. Jicarilla Lakes open tomorrow.

Jemez Area Streams - February 24th, 2005
supplied by: The Reel Life
FISHING: Poor
Rio Grande: Big water and slower fishing. Red has been fair with some nice fish near the confluence between runoff surges.

Sangre de Cristo Streams: Cold until spring. Higher elevation waters are pretty well kaput.

Chama River Watershed: No reports. Water is over 230cfs at both dams.

Jemez Area Streams: Sizable water with wet weather. No good reports.

Jemez Area Streams - February 11th, 2005

FISHING: Fair
Fair fishing, although there is a little runoff and cloudiness to the water on sunny afternoons. Fishing best in the lower parts of the watershed, especially around Jemez Springs. Upper sections (especially canyons) are too cold.
