Klamath River - October 12th, 2005
supplied by: Kutzkey's Guide Service
FISHING: Great
Hello fishermen; The Salmon fishing on the upper Klamath River is still going strong. I am catching 10 to 15 fish each day. Now we can not keep hardly any fish so we release most of the fish. Most of the morning this past week have been slow but yesterday the bite started first thing and was great until about noon and slowed down. I am getting all my fish on bait while back bouncing. The fish have been about 12 to 16 pounds each. But we are seeing a few over 20 pounds each day. This great Salmon fishing will only last about another week so if you are thinking of going you better stop thinking and go. The river is in great shape this year with the flow still up at 1300 cfs and is nice and clear, for the Klamath. I know a lot of you out there have hear something about this bad Algae bloom. I do not see any thing at all different with the river or the fish. I am out there every day and have my cut up hands in it all the time and splashed in my face. I am not sick yet and nothing has fallen off. So I do not know what they are talking about. On a good note the Steelhead are starting to show up. I am catching at least one a day while fishing for the Salmon. I saw a fly fishermen get a few yesterday, so they are out there to catch. This Steelhead season looks to be a good one. So if you are a Steelhead fishermen you better get your dates in soon. Hope to see you on the river.

FISHING: Fair
The fishing on the Klamath in the lower river is starting to slow down. We are not seeing the fresh runs of fish push up from the ocean each day. Fish can still be found by running up to the higher holes above Johnson's bar. We are headed over to the Trinity to fish for kings and steelhead for the next month or so till the Smith starts gets some rain for the start of the salmon season there. Thanks Tim King

Klamath River - October 2nd, 2005

FISHING: Great
Hello fishermen; The fishing on the upper Klamath River is doing very good at this time. For all the news of the fish kill a few years ago the fish are coming up in good numbers. I am fishing from the Iron Gate dam down and catching plenty of fish every trip. We can not keep very many fish but at least they are a lot of fun to catch and release. We are getting all our fish on bait. The count in the hatchery is already over 1100 fish. That is a lot more then last year at this same time. So we are looking at some great Salmon fishing for about a month. So if you are looking for some great action the upper Klamath River is your best bet. We are even seeing a few Steelhead also. This is early for them but it shows us that we are going to have a great Steelhead season also. I just had a few cancellations so I do have a few days open for this month. So if want to try this fishing out give me a call soon. Hope to see you on the river. Albert

Klamath River - September 27th, 2005

FISHING: Great
The fishing continues to be very good on the Klamath for kings silvers and steelhead. The fish are sitting in the holes up river and continue to come in from the ocean on the lower runs. Double digit scores are pretty common on most boats. We caught some nice adult salmon jacks and silvers today . Our landing ratio was pretty poor today we hooked over 15 fish but only landed 7 or 8. Klamath River - September 22nd, 2005

FISHING: Great
The steelhead are here in force. I've been fishing every day some where between Seiad and Happy Camp. Most of my trips have been with fly fishermen. I do have to say the flies are keeping up with the bait. Most of the fish we are catching are half pounders. They have been ranging anywhere from 12 to 18 inches. The half pounders this year are in great shape. Really fat and full of spunk. You think you have a pretty big fish on untill they come out of the water. Which by the way almost all of them have been jumpers of olympic class. These fish are the prefect target for the fly angler. I'm sure we will be seeing more big fish in the next couple weeks. In the mean time these smaller fish are giving everyone plenty of action. Yesterday , my two anglers and I hooked three at the same time. What a mess all three fish were jumping and shooting back and forth. We landed two of the three and I spent a few miniutes untangling some lines. Again , I haven't seen another boat in days. Which is just fine with me and the guys fishing with me. It's getting to be that time to start thinking about the winter fishing on the coastal streams. As always I'll be fishing the Smith and Chetco rivers and making some trips to the Eel when it's fishable. I've resently aquired an up river permit for the Chetco River. This will open up some new water for me to take some of you on. Accually about 10 more miles of river. I still have a few days open in Nov. and have other guides working with me with days availabe too. So quit reading about everyone else and go fishing.

FISHING: Good
The fishing remains good on the Klamath and the Trinity rivers. Most of the boats today ran high up the river to get there fish we stayed behind and had the lower river mostly to ourselves. We picked them of one by one at all the usual places and ended up with some really nice adults and jacks we did not catch any steelhead or silvers today. Its still not to late to get in on the fishing it will be good through October. Thanks Tim King

Klamath River - September 18th, 2005

FISHING: Good
Hi Folks, The fishing on the lower Klamath has been up and down. There appears to be many salmon moving through the system. That seems to be the problem , they are moving like torpedoes up river. We see fish jumping and rolling everywhere. Some days they bite some day NOT! On Friday the 16th we got a good shot of rain. Fortunately I was working for a friend of mine who owns a lodge up river. None of us had rain gear and we got soaked. We took off for the lodge and dried off and had some lunch. We took a couple hour break and the rain let up. We went back to fishing and caught a few more salmon and lost as many. The score for the day was something like anglers 6 and fish beat us by a couple. The old rubber hook syndrome I guess. We fished a little later than usual because of the mid day break. I guess it was about 5 pm when I headed down stream. The wind was dead calm and the was flat. As I headed down I was watching the flats and noticed quite a few fish rolling everywhere. It seemed the further down I went the more fish I was seeing. When I got down to the Glenn some of the locals were netting some salmon. They said they were getting them pretty good. It appears as though the main run may have just got to the Klamath. I sure hope so. I had to go home for the weekend to attend a wedding on Sat. I'll be back on the river on Monday and see if the fishing has improved. I'm thinking it will. I'll let you know in a couple days.

FISHING: Great
More fish are pushing in. The last few days we have had good and bad days fishing. The steelhead action continues to be good we are landing some nice adults and a few half pounders everyday. There some nice jacks coming in also they seem to be on the bite everyday. The adult salmon bite is up and down our best day has been 15 fish and our worse day we landed 2. The Trinity is picking up with some good salmon and steelhead numbers most of the fish are traveling really fast up the river it should fish really good during October and November. The Smith should start to see some big salmon showing up in November also. Thanks Tim King

Klamath River - September 11th, 2005

FISHING: Great
Hi Fisher Folks, The last few days on the Klamath have been just about perfect. The quota has been met and we are not allowed to keep any adult salmon over 22 inches. This alway results in a big exit of boats from the river. Which mean less traffic and more fish for my fishermen. Today I was in one spot where we hooked a fish every drift for about 6 drifts. Most of them were steelhead. Nice adults going to 8 pounds. We probably lost as many as we landed. The water temp. are down this year (about 64 to 66 degrees) and these fish are fighters. We managed to get some hatchery steelhead for the guys to take home and releasd some real nice salmon.
