Pecos River - May 23rd, 2013
supplied by: The Reel Life
RECORDED:    0 °   FISHING: Great
Be advised the Pecos will be packed this weekend! For those of you that can find a little elbow room out there the fishing should be on. Good reports from Dalton all the way to Cowles. Dry droppers are the ticket here. We never got a big runoff with the lack of snow, but the stream flow is great right now. For your dries try medium sized stimis, Humpies, Irresistables, Hoppers, Ants and Elk Hairs. Try dropping eggs, anato mays, Master Yodas, sparkle wing rs2s, FB PT's, Hares ears, Don Kings, and rainbow warriors. Cloudy days are getting great beatis hatches so keep your eyes peeled!

Weather and Lunar Phases

Pecos River - May 7th, 2013
supplied by: The Reel Life
RECORDED:    62 °   FISHING: Good
Stonefly nymphs are getting a little more active, and small nymphs will be productive in the fast shallow slots. Caddis poops, micromays, princes or anything peacock. On warm days you'll see some action on top, all the way to Cowles.

Weather and Lunar Phases

Pecos River - April 23rd, 2013
supplied by: The Reel Life
RECORDED:    61 °   FISHING: Good
Small nymphs - militaries, frenchies, pheasant tails, micros - under a dry like a beetle or small hopper might work in the shallower stuff. Having a stream thermometer will help here. Chartreuse eggs with stoneflies would be our choice for faster water.

Weather and Lunar Phases

Pecos River - February 5th, 2013
supplied by: The Reel Life
RECORDED:    46 °   FISHING: Fair
With this warm weather, I think certain parts of the canyon that get the most sun will have fish that might wake up a bit. Water could get really cold though if the snow melts too much. Tiny nymphs are a good bet, worms, eggs. Take your thermometer to help you home in on what to expect.

Weather and Lunar Phases

Pecos River - December 23rd, 2012

RECORDED:    41 °   FISHING: Fair
If you can't stay at home, take advantage of a sunny day and fish the slow pools with small nymphs.

Weather and Lunar Phases

Pecos River - November 7th, 2012
supplied by: The Reel Life
RECORDED:    63 °   FISHING: Good
This warm weather has fish still rising to dries. Round it out by running a tungsten nymph about 18 below. Enjoy this Indian summer in November, because it's supposedly going to change this weekend, hopefully a lot. Dust off those cloud seeders, folks.

Weather and Lunar Phases

Pecos River - October 17th, 2012
supplied by: The Reel Life
RECORDED:    74 °   FISHING: Great
Throw caution to the wind and start with a large attractor dry. Fishing should pick up when the sun's been out for a while, so whether you have to begin with a nymph or not, you'll get them up by day's end. Water will be low though, and the fish a tad spooky.

Weather and Lunar Phases

Pecos River - September 21st, 2012
supplied by: The Reel Life
RECORDED:    70 °   FISHING: Great
It's really wonderful to be able to see the Pecos again, as itself and not through a forest of human beings. Nothing against humans, but quite often we fish to get away from them for a spell. Find some pocket water and fish a dry fly one size smaller than what you're comfortable with. We've got these parachute royal wulffs that are lighting the world on fire. Elk hairs and a little snowshoe hare caddis work fine as well. Small nymphs, small indicators.

Nice and cool pretty much all day.

Weather and Lunar Phases

Pecos River - September 11th, 2012
supplied by: The Reel Life
RECORDED:    73 °   FISHING: Great
The Pecos is extremely low these days. As far as technique goes, I would put money on stalking as the most important for catching fish. Bring your terrestrials, small nymphs, nothing terribly special besides stealth. I predict a big change in the ecosystem as fall settles in. Irrigation is going to stop, nights longer and colder, and leaves gonna fall.

Weather and Lunar Phases

Pecos River - August 29th, 2012
supplied by: The Reel Life
RECORDED:    81 °   FISHING: Great
Go midweek, and have some terrestrials on you. If you feel up to it, bring a trash bag to do some cleaning, and maybe call out the pigs if you see them up to the usual. I know how tough it can be to speak up, but enough is enough.

Small beadheads will get the picky pickies. I like purple, I like soft hackles. For the worst fish, I'd try a solitary mayfly imitation.
