Sargent.  Dries and droppers.  Careful for cougars and bears.  Broken ankles.  Elk hunters on two legs too.  Enjoy.

I'd fish the Sargent, and I'd also have a really good weather report before I went in.  Hiking out of that canyon can be muy hairy in a downpour.  Your feet will be adobes by the time you get to your car, if you're not sizzled by lightning on your way there.  The Sargent is scary in a storm.

But when the sky gets dark, the bigger fish come out.  Perhaps a medium sized zonker, a turd, even a mouse, might get one of them to act silly.  A thin-bodied pmd pattern is nice to have on hand.  And try to get your shots in hard to reach places - logs, under brush, against boulders - again, to bring out the big ones.

Sargent. Move slowly.  Small dry flies.  Catch fish.

When the shadows lengthen, give a harder look at the pools, and watch how many big fish show up.

Whether it actually comes to pass, definitely expect rain, particularly if you go into the Sargent, which you should.  A big storm can jam you big time if you're in too deep; you can get cold, get injured, lots of things.  But if it gets dark in the sky, keep in mind that the big browns will come out. They'll eat jackals, streamers, things that are fat and juicy like craneflies and mice.

I'd say about a 45 minute walk up the Sargent would be decent.  Below town to El Vado, I'm betting the water's getting warm by early pm if it doesn't rain, and it will be sucky.  Keep a thermometer on you; be happy as long as it's below 65, and if it's above, be sad.  On the turnouts on the El Vado road, don't discount some carp fishing in the pools if the water warms up.  Blow them off if they turn out to be suckers.  Compared to carp, suckers are gross! Try below El Vado if the flow is under 300.

RECORDED:    9 °   FISHING: Fair
It's fishing at least.  Can you tell I'm in a mood?  I'd go small coppers, some caddis dries in the evening.  I'd avoid the midday hours and go set off fireworks.

RECORDED:    92 °   FISHING: Excellent
Should be crowded given it's the only place to fish.  But it is fishing and the fish are fat from the Heron area up into the Sargent.  Bust people who don't treat the land right, else another fire is on the way.  Turds and worms, princes, and red copper johns.  Salvations in the smaller sizes and all colors.

RECORDED:    85 °   FISHING: Fair
Big bugs in big water for big fish.  Still some runoff, but don't let that deter you.  Just be safe, with a six or five weight in your hand.  My call would be below Heron with some turds, poundmeisters, double bead stones, and on top, a big fuzzy wuzzy.  Get under the rocks and logs, lose some flies.

RECORDED:    0 °   FISHING: Poor
Still a no, though a soft one.  The main problem will be access, as in getting to a spot not too raging to hold trout.  Hopefully it will be next to your bank, have no brush nearby, and not be cleaned out by dunkers.  I know you can catch fish but, like on the Conejos, your success will depend on your tolerance for taking your life in your hands.

Waitin for the Heroin stretch to begin fishing.  Slogging around near town may yield some nice ones.  Water's dropping.
