Heavy rain the last two days in many places has lowered temperatures and sent water levels up. A couple days of clear weather will settle the murkiness and leave good fishing.

Rio Grande: Tributaries are running hard today, but may be peaking now. A little change in flows downstream of the Red (which flowed pretty good) but some excellent reports from the Gorge; some okay reports from the Pilar area.

Sangre de Cristo Streams:No change--these streams are pretty intact watersheds and settle within a day of hard rains. Don't bother getting out at dawn, temperatures are cool at night. Get out the nymphs if you want to catch fish here.

McAllister Lake: Yea! Get those waders and float tubes, because the lake is finally cooled off and fishing with Wooly Buggers or other streamers is producing some fat fish up to 20".

Chama River Watershed: Irrigation season is pretty well over and flows have dropped below both dams. The water is murky, so use nymphs and streamers. Game and Fish stocked below Abiquiu three weeks ago. Please remember that special regulations apply to the downstream highway bridge. Headwaters are high.

Jemez Area Streams: The rain muddies up the meadows and the volcanic silt takes a long time to settle out, but cooler temperatures wake up these streams. Take fine tippets, small dry flies and some little nymphs along, too.

Valle Vidal: Flows are too low for fishing, thanks to the end of irrigation season.

Rio Grande: Some excellent reports from the Gorge; some okay reports from the Pilar area.

Sangre de Cristo Streams:No change. Don't bother getting out at dawn, temperatures are cool at night. Small wild fish are doing well on carefully presented dry flies on the Rio Pueblo and Santa Barbara.

Although the weatherman says monsoons are over, don't believe it. Cooler temperatures are evident in the mornings. Expect a busy holiday weekend and do some walking.

Rio Grande: No change. Flow is just under 200cfs at Taos Junction Bridge.  Some fun reports from last week on the smallmouth near Pilar. Excellent reports for trout from the Wild Rivers area, but also some traffic. Busy on the Red River tributary.

Rio Grande: No change. Flow is just under 200cfs at Taos Junction Bridge.  Some trout are being caught, but we're hearing more excitement over smallmouth bass.  Crayfish, Wooly Buggers or other small streamers are working. Excellent reports from the Wild Rivers area, but also some traffic. Busy on the Red River tributary.

Chama River Watershed:  Not recommended. There are some big fish being caught on worms in muddy water below El Vado Dam, but flows are being jacked around so much the visibility will make wading and fishing difficult.

Rio Grande: No change. Flow is around 200cfs at Taos Junction Bridge.  Some trout are being caught, but the park is a little more interesting for the presence of smallmouth right now.  Crayfish, Wooly Buggers or other small streamers are working. Excellent reports from the Wild Rivers area, but also some traffic. Busy on the Red Rvoer tributary.

Rio Grande: A little bump in flows over the last couple of days seems to have ended.  Waters are fishable at 250cfs at Taos Junction Bridge, but not great for trout.  Get out the little streamers and give the smallmouth a try.

Rio Grande: A slug of weekend water has temporarily raised the river at Pilar, but try the park section for smallmouth on crawfish and streamers.

Rio Grande: River level has come down to 300 cfs at Taos Junction Bridge and fishing at Pilar is much easier.   Lots of rafters on the Racecourse makes it tough during the day, but evening or very early morning can be good.
