RECORDED:    84 °   FISHING: Great
Now my pick of the week would be the Rio around Pilar, simply because it has some water in it.  Waiting for the doldrums to end on other streams has made just being on the Rio a wonderful day's fishing (or swimming if you so desire).  While you may not run into many fish, - which doesn't mean you wont' - your options are all over the map.  If you bring a 6 weight, a few pike streamers, some heavy buggers and stonefly nymphs for carp, and some general nymphs and stripping flies, you can catch up to 6 species of fish, including two of trout.  The water is so low you can wade just about anywhere, can see pike and carp really easily, and get drifts through stuff you never have.  Search for pike or carp, and when the sun falls, slap the banks with buggers for browns and smallies.  We're also seeing plenty of bug feeding trout above the Pueblo confluence.  Watch the poison ivy and keep an eye peeled for snakes.  If I had my choice of anything this week, I'd go to the Rio, unless of course, I had a private jet to take me to the Juan or the Conejos.

Great to fair that is.  We've heard some reports of excellent pocket pick dry flying in the gorge, and the dry dropper action up in Colorado (make sure you have a drop a turd - what many call the Pat's rubber legs and I don't know which is grosser - below your dry).  Down in Pilar, you can get a great day's uncrowded fishing in, even if you don't catch a lot of fish.  If it was me, I'd rig a 6 weight as though I were fishing for smallmouth, bring some medium sized smallish nymphs in case I saw a carp in the shallows, some 16 pound flouro and big streamers in case I saw a pike.  To top it off, I'd have a few dries for brown trout fishing after the shadows fell.  Or I'd just stick to streamers and slap the banks for whatever runs out.  We've been getting some nice pike all over.

Depends on the water.  Is it dirty or clean, cold or warm.  Recently, it could be anything.  Trout are actually on it in relatively clear water, wired stones working best.  Good reports for smallies if there's a bit of visibility and a nice chugging streamer in the works.

Good for smallmouths at Orilla Verde, and you might get some good trout fishing in the waning hours on mayfly and caddis emergers.  I've always liked fishing cripples when the sun leaves the canyon.  The tinsel tail, our new favorite streamer, could be a serious stunner if you want to go for pike.

Word is that the stones are almost finished on the river near South Fork.  The drakes should be coming any day.  You will catch trout up there if you search.  Big terrestrials and streamers should do fine, secrets, hare's ears, and soft hackles swung in the riffles in the evening.

For now, fish the Rio in Colorado.  Throw streamers and big stone dries and nymphs.  Then, almost immediately, you'll see drakes.  I like my streamers yellow, but lots of the guys I'm talking to prefer olive sculpins.  Bring a sink tip.

Forget it until the flows stabilize, which might not happen too soon given all the rain and snow coming down.

Water's a bit dirty and up, but they're here, caddis all over the joint.  My best reports are coming from John Dunn.  All life stages are fishing, but larvae will diminish in importance as the hatch progresses.  Hopefully, if weather warms, it will do so slowly so we can have the most fun.  All pupae work fine, a hare's ear will also do.  I like swinging a weighted renegade to feel them thud it on the upswing.

Again, it's a wind thing.  Load up with weight, either with a 3/0 shot or two or with a heavy twenty incher (the fly), warden's, or thighmaster.  I'd also make sure I had a caddis pattern in the mix, larva or pupa.  Wire bodied flies might help you drop your bugs deeper.  The hatch should be right around the corner.  Streamer guys might do well to put on a sink tip.
