Salmon River – Middle Fork - July 25th, 2011
supplied by: Radditz Sipler Outfitters (RSO)
RECORDED:    85 °   FISHING: Excellent
It's been a great year on the Middle Fork so far. We just finished our 3rd consecutive six day trip on the Middle Fork with Helfrich River Outfitters. The river was at 3.33 feet this trip after starting the first two trips at 5.44 and 4.16. Great flows and great weather have been the norm so far. Fishing continues to be outstanding with some boats landing over 100 fish per day!

Salmon River – Middle Fork - August 19th, 2010
supplied by: Radditz Sipler Outfitters (RSO)
RECORDED:    82 °   FISHING: Great
We just finished our 8th and final trip on the Middle Fork for the 2010 season and it was a great trip. We had some Oregon guides join us on this final launch and enjoyed showing them this great river and canyon. Fishing continued to be really solid as decent water volume and cooler nights kept water temps down to optimal levels. Parachute Adams days one and two, then hoppers, hoppers, hoppers, and more hoppers on down the canyon. Thank you to everyone who joined us this year on the Middle Fork and we hope to see you here again in the near future.

Salmon River – Middle Fork - August 9th, 2010

RECORDED:    85 °   FISHING: Great
It's been a great year on the Middle Fork so far. We just finished our 7th consecutive six day trip on the Middle Fork,  with  one still to go. Helfrich River Outfitters runs a world class trip and we are proud to be working with them again this season. The river was at 2.09 feet so this was our first deadhead trip of the year. Fishing was still really good as the thunderstorms and rain kept water temps from climbing too much. Fishing started good and held up all the way down river. We are seeing the fish move to faster bank lies as the grasshoppers become their main food source.

Salmon River – Middle Fork - June 22nd, 2010
supplied by: Radditz Sipler Outfitters (RSO)
FISHING: Good
It's great to be back on the Middle Fork! We just finished our first six day trip on the Middle Fork, working with Helfrich River Outfitters. The Oregon weather followed us out to Idaho, but we did see some sun this week. The river was at 5.11 feet to begin the trip and it dropped some during the week. Fishing was a little slow up top but was good in the afternoons as we dropped in elevation and the water warmed. Lots of beautiful cutthroats and a few rainbows looking up and eating golden stones, caddis, and a variety of mayflies. The fishing isn't rocket science over here and it's nice to be throwing dry flies at the fish. Fishing should continue to improve next week as the insects are really starting to hatch. We watched golden stones and giant salmonflies crawling out and the caddis are starting to hatch. Fun boating this week, and it should be a great level next week for our June 25th launch. Helfrich River Outfitters runs a world class trip and there is still some availability for our July trips.

Salmon River – Middle Fork - June 15th, 2010
supplied by: Radditz Sipler Outfitters (RSO)
FISHING: Good
Launching today for the first MF trip of the year! Water is up but still below 5 feet, so it should be exciting. The fishing isn't always great on this early launch but the whitewater will produce plenty of adrenaline!

Salmon River - March 8th, 2010
supplied by: Big R Fly Shop
RECORDED:    41 °   FISHING: Excellent
I've been over here for the past three weeks now, and the river is really turning on.  Deadwater, the ice-dam that blocks flows and the migration of steelhead around Shoup, has busted up which has brought a push of fresher fish to the upper river.  Most efforts have been focused from Shoup to Salmon.  It has been warm over here lately too, making the river a little cloudy (which it always seems to be) and melting the ice sheets that have been on the banks.  In the mornings, the water temp has been around 38 and has been warming up to around 45-47.  For those of you who swing, you know that ideal temperatures for this technique are above 40 degrees, which this river is currently at.  Look for the fish to be less grabby than in the fall though.  If you like to keep hatchery fish, make sure that what you're keeping are destined for the smoker, these fish have been in freshwater for quite awhile now.

Fish have been caught on the swing.

Cutthroat and Steelhead are the prime quarry for the next 6 months. The Salmon is typically a late run Steelhead river but there are always a few that do come in early.

Salmon River (lincoln c.) - October 9th, 2005

FISHING: Good
The river has slowed down a bit but it's still receiving a lot of fishing pressure.  Not a river for the guy who likes peace and solitude.

FISHING: Good
With recent rains salmon have moved up river above and below the hatchery and new fish will arrive in tidewater.   The next couple of days above tidewater should produce some decent numbers of fish.
