Flow was raised a little over 100cfs in the last week to 750cfs--a wonderful level for fish and not bad for wading anglers. Clear water and the usual reports of midge larvae, but one fun story of a 22-inch rainbow near Kiddie Hole and a Letort Hopper, too.

San Juan River - July 3rd, 2005

FISHING: Good

San Juan River: Because of a missing angler, the water flows were dropped more quickly than planned. Water levels dropped from 4500cfs to 530cfs in big steps over nine days. Expect fish to be a little disoriented for a bit, but healthier for their time at high flow.
Emergency workdays: Brown trout were discovered in the Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout recovery area on the upper Rio Cebolla over Memorial Day weekend. Join New Mexico Trout volunteers and folks from the Forest Service and Game and Fish on June 27, 28 and/or 29th to mount an all-out effort at immediate removal. Please contact Mike Mauer at mikemaurer@earthlink.net or 505-892-4092 for more information.
