Sol Duc River - January 28th, 2011
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:
42 °
FISHING: Excellent
The Sol Duc is in great shape running at 1800cfs with 6 ft of vis and dropping.
This red HOT HOT HOT!!!! Bill and I both had a 20 fish day last week with lots of both Snider fish and wild ones to.
There are lots of early Hatchery winter steelhead with a ton of wild steelhead moving in and are spread out from the snider bridge down to the mouth. The fish are moving through the system at a fast rate.
The best technique for these early steelhead is to sidedrift eggs or prawns. Stick with 2 #3 vision hooks and a Wordens corkie in flame, pink, rainbow, pearl pink or glo red. The best eggs have been the coastal cure or 321 in a more nautral orange.
Fish are slowing down enough to start fishing jigs when the water drops and clears. Stick with Aero Jigs or Beau MAc jigs in Pink, Cerise, Pink/white, peach, Pink/Purple and Nightmare.
You can also fish a Mad River worm in Pink, Glo PInk and Pink, Chart Tail. Fish a 1/8oz jigs head in a white, Chart or black head with your worms.
It will be a mix of both snider hatchery fish and wild ones for the next couple of weeks until the wild fish take over.
