Sol Duc River - December 18th, 2008
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:
22 °
FISHING: Great
Sol Duc in great shape running at 4 boards and 6 ft of vis.
Hatchery and wild fish spread out from Riverside all the way to lynndeckers. Best fishing has been from the Salmon Hatchery down to Lynndeckers.
This time of year I like to cover lots of water so best techniques have been side drifting Small #12 cheaters in flame, Pearl pink, Glo Green or Orange clown and a small glob of coastal eggs or Cured prawns in pautzke cure.
Floats have also been good in 1/8 oz Beau Mac beaded jigs in Cerise, Pink/White, Pink/ Pink/White or Nightmare jig. Just remember when fishing floats cover lots of water concentrating on pocket water and right above and below rapids as all the bigger wild fish are on the move.
Look for left ventral fins clipped on Wild Steelhead as these are Snider Brood Stock Hatchery Fish.
Hatchery numbers will get better in early January, Snider Brood Stock fish will get better in mid January and wild fish numbers will just get better each day.
If you would like to help collect Snider Brood Stock Adults please contact me for instructions at 360-271-7197.
Remember that above the Salmon Hatchery it is selective regulations which means no bait, single barbless hooks, no scent and no retention on wild fish.
