Trinity River - October 26th, 2005
supplied by: Tim's Guide Service
FISHING: Good
The start of winter is finally arriving. We had some light rain falling all night here in Douglas city all of which just soaked up into the dry ground. Over on the Smith we did see a little rise in the river flows. It has gone from 300 cfs to 550 at this time. With more rain forecast for the next few days the Smith will be fishing good for the last run of salmon in the state. The Trinity is giving up some nice steelhead with salmon fishing all but over. I have a some openings on both rivers depending on which species of fish you are interested in. Thanks Tim King

FISHING: Good
The salmon fishing on the Trinity for quality fish is all but over. Most of the fish are dark and good for the smoker. The steelhead fishing is pretty good depending on which section of river you are fishing. The flows are down to 350 cfs . The smith got a good shot of rain over the weekend and the first wave of salmon are down in the estuary below the hwy 101 bridge. The Sacramento is still seeing some nice fish move through and the fishing is still pretty good here also. For the rest of October and November we will be fishing for steelhead on the Trinity and Salmon fishing on the Smith and Sacramento. The weather is supposed to be good all week with the next chance of rain coming in on Friday. Thanks Tim King

FISHING: Great
The fishing remains good on the Klamath and the Trinity rivers. Most of the boats today ran high up the river to get there fish we stayed behind and had the lower river mostly to ourselves. We picked them of one by one at all the usual places and ended up with some really nice adults and jacks we did not catch any steelhead or silvers today. Its still not to late to get in on the fishing it will be good through October. Thanks Tim King

FISHING: Great
More fish are pushing in. The last few days we have had good and bad days fishing. The steelhead action continues to be good we are landing some nice adults and a few half pounders everyday. There some nice jacks coming in also they seem to be on the bite everyday. The adult salmon bite is up and down our best day has been 15 fish and our worse day we landed 2. The Trinity is picking up with some good salmon and steelhead numbers most of the fish are traveling really fast up the river it should fish really good during October and November. The Smith should start to see some big salmon showing up in November also. Thanks Tim King

Trinity River - September 16th, 2005

FISHING: Good
A few fall-run salmon starting to show in Indian nets near Red Rock, but it’s still a little early yet. There are, however, decent numbers of steelhead moving through the Hoopa Valley though very few people have been fishing for them. The water’s a little on the warm side and very clear, so it’s tough fishing. Hoopa-Cooler water has improved the bite for both salmon and steelhead around Hoopa. Roe and spinners were effective for salmon, while steelhead were biting roe, night crawlers, spinners and spoons, like Little Cleo’s in blue/silver, gold or maroon/gold in 1/2 to 3/8 ounce. Del Loma-A few salmon were being caught, but fishing for them was a challenge. However, steelhead fishing was good, particularly around Del Loma. Most were wild fish, and some of them weighed up to 8 ½ pounds. They were taking back-trolling Pee Wee Warts and Hot Shots.

FISHING: Poor
Daily Data for California: Stage and Streamflow
The Trinity is pretty much done for spring salmon fishing. On our last trip we caught one fish. The other boats on the same drift got skunked. The counts coming through the department of fish and game weir are about 3 to 5 fish every couple of days. There are a few fish to be caught way up high in the Lewiston area but the fish are pretty dark. We are headed over to the Klamath tomorrow and i will have a report from there on Thursday we plan on doing some fly fishing and bait tossing for the summer run steelhead and target the Kings down at the mouth. The Sacramento river stills remains slow and with the current heat wave coastal steelhead fishing will be a lot more fun. Thanks Tim King

FISHING: Excellent
Daily Data for California: Stage and Streamflow
The Trinity continues to be the Place to be for spring salmon with the Klamath right behind.
Today also was the opener on the Sacramento river below the red bluff diversion dam it was a zoo as always with some nice fish caught under a ton of fishing pressure. Things will calm down on the Sacramento in the next few days and we should start to see a ton more fish move up in August and September. The Klamath is having one off its best spring seasons ever. We hope the springers will continue right up till the fall fish come in some time in August.
The Trinity gave up a lot of fish today every boat i talked to had limits and lots of bank fishermen where catching them too. The best bite today was on roe. The weather remains extremely hot on the Trinity registering over 100 degrees in the afternoons. The weather over on the Klamath is a lot cooler in the high 70,s. The water continues to drop on the Klamath and the Trinity and will hit the summer flow of 450cfs soon. Thanks Tim

FISHING: Fair
Daily Data for California: Stage and Streamflow
Most of the guides and a few bank fisherman started to pick up fish this weekend. It all started on Friday. We started to see a few fish moving when we where drifting down the river these where the first salmon we had seen all year. We ended up 1 for 2 on Friday and 2 for 2 on Saturday. We did see a few fish caught at the swimming hole in Junction city from the bank. The numbers of fish caught will really start to improve in the coming weeks as more fish move up and the water flows slowly drop back down. Thanks Tim King

FISHING: Fair
Douglas City-Springers are on their way, and they’re already beginning to show up. Flows were dropping and should be at excellent fishable levels beginning about the time you read this paper. There’s springers stretched from the bottom of the river all the way to here, now, where they’re just beginning.
Grays Falls-Flows were dropping, and fishing was excellent at Grays and Burnt Ranch Falls. Fish were on the small side, averaging 8 to 12 pounds, but the average catch per rod was good, considering flows were still a bit on the high side. Anglers were using tuna balls and roe held down with 1 1/2 ounces to 2 1/4 ounces of lead.
Willow Creek-The spring salmon run is turning out to be consistent and good this year, especially around Greys Falls and Burnt Ranch Falls where the fish get balled up. Very busy, but good fishing. Roe works, but using a bag with some tuna on the hook, also, seems to be the ticket.

The Trinity is still slow. The fish just have not shown up yet in any kind of numbers that make it worth while to go fishing . The only places where people are consistently catching them still from the bank down below the falls. By this time last year there was a lot more fish in the river . I am sure things will pick up soon. Thanks Tim King
