Trinity River - March 9th, 2004
supplied by: Tim's Guide Service
FISHING: Fair
Here's the low down on the rivers, the Trinity is still high, the fishing on the Smith is pretty slow not a lot of fish being caught but smiling Phil landed a 25 ponder this week. The Eel is probably the best bet, it usually fishes good in March and is clearing down towards the main stem. The weather picture still looks good for the coming week. Thanks Tim king

Trinity River - February 29th, 2004

FISHING: Fair
The Trinity is starting to drop back into shape the upper river still remains high at 2000cfs but the lower river is down to 20 ft on the gauge. The south fork of the Trinity is coming into shape also with the flows down to about 4000 below Hyampom. The weather forecast hasn’t looked this good all winter no rain is forecast for this week it should let the river drop  back down to fishable levels soon. The Eel should also be coming in this week the south fork will clear first and if the weather holds we could see boats make it on to the main stem also. Thanks Tim King

Trinity River - February 24th, 2004

FISHING: Poor
The Trinity continues to have too much turbidity to fish with any success. The problem is the lakes are colored up also you can see from the pictures that Lewiston lake the after bay of Trinity lake is pretty green  also you can see that Trinity lake is almost full and the discharge from the power house is pea green. Until the lake settles out and the water clears up coming out of the dam the Trinity will remain un-fishable. We saw this happen in 97 it continued in to Springer season but by that time the river only had a little color in it and it actually helped us catch more fish that year. They are calling for another big storm this week to hit the North coast we will keep you updated on the river conditions. One good thing about the high water is that it gives the steelhead good access to all the creeks allowing them to get in spawn and get back to the main river and start there trip back to the ocean this will be good for the steelhead fishing in the long run. Thanks Tim King

Trinity River - February 22nd, 2004

FISHING: Poor
The flows continue to be high and the Trinity River still has to much color to fish effectively and with more rain on the way I don’t look for any thing to change here soon. The Smith and the Chetco are fishing well at this time the Eel is still out  there is a chance that the rains will stay north of there and the south fork will drop into shape. Thanks Tim King

FISHING: Poor
The north coast has been getting hammered from this pineapple express all the rivers are blown out at this time we will keep you posted on when they start to drop in to shape. The Perk derby is this weekend on the Smith and the Chetco hopefully they will come back in for the weekend over there or it will be one big plunking party for the fisherman. Thanks Tim King

Trinity River - February 16th, 2004

FISHING: Poor
Monday morning  The rivers are all blown out including the Eel, Mad, Redwood Creek, Klamath, and the Trinity. The Smith is rising fast and the rain is continuing to fall so there will be no steelhead fishing today.  Thanks Tim King

Trinity River - February 13th, 2004

FISHING: Good
Nothing like yesterday the weather went bad on us today and we moved pretty fast down the river. The wind was gusting up to 35 mph at times its hard to get a good drift when your lines have big bows in them. We did put a few fish in the boat and there were the suicidal half pounders that will smack your bait no matter where you have it in the water.  They are calling for a few showers tonight and hopefully the wind will lie down before tomorrow. Thanks Tim King

Trinity River - February 8th, 2004

FISHING: Good
The fishing has slowed down a bit the last few days on the Trinity River but things started to pick back up today. We did not have a great day but at least the fish were biting we ended up landing 3 and we lost another one as it did the steelhead leaps and throw the hook thing it was the  big fish of the day also. I think things will really start to pick up in the next few days when some lower runs start to get fishable we should see our numbers of fish caught go up and there size should be bigger also. Thanks Tim King

Trinity River - February 3rd, 2004

FISHING: Good
We never made it over to the south fork of the Trinity we fished the main stem on Sunday we landed 4 steelies that where pretty small not the typical winter fish we had been seeing in the previous outings. Monday we rescheduled to a snow storm that blew in Sunday evening today was a little better Johnny went 4 for 4 today and we got off the water at  1:00 pm not bad for a short day. The fishing is still good we are seeing a mix of fresh fish and some fish that have there full blown spawning colors they are beautiful. The weather looks good for the week and the upper river is in perfect condition.
