Wallowa Lake - June 16th, 2013
supplied by: Joseph Fly Shoppe, LLC
RECORDED:
70 °
FISHING: Good
6/16 - same. Kokanee fishing generally rated as poor - but some locals have figured out how to catch 20 smaller fish a day. Stocked trout fishing fair to good.
6/10 - Same 6/4/13 Good that is if you are fishing for stocked trout - not good for Kokanee. Perhaps the warm weather will change that - we will try to report. 5/27/13 Wallowa lake was heavily stocked with rainbow and fished great over Memorial Day weekend. Best fly fishing is near the river inlet on the south end. Use a floating or clear intermediate sinking line with a green or black woolly bugger or prince nymph - trailed 12" - 16" by a smaller fly such as a #16 orange soft hackle or lighting bug.
ODFW is a reporting in a significant shift in the Kokanee fishery. Small kokanee under 10" have increased in recent years from 70,000 to 900,000. The daily catch limit was recently increased from 10/day to 20 (but only 5 over 12". There is less probability of catching the record size fish being caught a few years ago. However, last Saturday a 32"/ 24"girth Mackinaw was caught in 10'of water on the south end.
