Skagit River - October 15th, 2008
supplied by: Angler's Guide Service
RECORDED:
51 °
FISHING: Excellent
Had a bump in river flow and it brought in some more fresh fish. Jigs and dick nites worked well in the back water areas for some anglers. The majority of the fish today seemed to be on the move. Pulling plugs in the traveling lanes today was the hot technique today. We hooked silvers or chums on every pass in water from 5 to 8 feet deep. Dress for the cold temperatures have been in the thirties in the morning.

FISHING: Excellent
River flows have dropped and fishing is excellent!! Caught most of our fish on plugs today. Dennis Rodman out fished all other colors however cheese measles held its own. Less fish seemed to be on the move today. Water clarity is about 8 feet. Some of the shallower spots I fished yesterday didn't fish well today.

FISHING: Excellent
River flows have dropped and fishing is excellent!! Found Silvers and chums on the move today. Caught all of our fish on pink jigs. Other boats were catching chums and silvers on plugs as well. I think any technique would have worked today! Fresh agressive fish on the move, what more could you ask for!

Skagit River - September 30th, 2008

RECORDED:

FISHING: Great
Silvers are showing up in good catchable numbers. Fresh fish are being caught in most of the traveling spots in the early morning. Once the sun gets high the bite is slowing down. So slow down and fish the deeper holding water. Be acurate with your casting into the wood and you should do just fine.

Skagit River - February 19th, 2008
supplied by: The Avid Angler
RECORDED:

FISHING: Good
The Skagit is fishing reasonably well with reports of a few fish being taken below the Sauk. I hit a 7 pound native hen on a blue magic during the middle of the day, fishing a fast sink tip line.
The Skagit and Sauk close at the end of March this year, so get out and fish.

Skagit River - November 16th, 2007

FISHING: Fair
I received several reliable reports from the Skagit near Marblemount and the Sky near Goldbar earlier this week indicating that there were some chum already high in our systems. These particular anglers focused on Dolly Varden with a swung fly/strip presentation, and they were successful on rabbit strip-based patterns in dark colors on sink-tip lines; chum were hooked and played on lighter colored flies with the same technique.
Although folks have run into a few chum that have made a swim, look for more in our systems shortly. The gauges are in working order and they all indicate that our local rivers are on the rise. With this fresh push of water, look for the chums to start moving up in good numbers with dollies, sea-run cutts, and the occasional late summer-run fish (or early winter fish) in the wake. Of course, we're going to have to wait until the rivers come down to a fishable level before charging out there, but by the time these rains pass it'll be prime chum time in our local systems.
As our local river levels rise with the November rains, it's nice to wade through a little Haig-Brown for insight. Here's little passage when he's discussing fast water rises: "We are inclined to think that a fish can do just about anything he likes in the water and, compared to a man, he can. But his body is subject to the same laws of current flow and current whimsy as is a man's, even though in less degree. Even though his reactions are five times as fast as those of a man, his eyes can still be deceived by broken light and erratic action. The resident trout is dealing with these things every day, of course, and learns to do very well with them - but even Ted Williams has been known to take a strike or pop up an infield fly. The sea-run fish is like a ball player at the first batting practice of the season, liable to be quite a bit off his timing; and to make matters even worse, he is not normally a hungry player."
