I just got access to a 4 day backcountry trip in the Slough Creek drainage. This is one of the premier campsites on Slough Creek, and is a great fishing opportunity. If you are desiring a backcountry horseback experience with pristine beauty and great fishing, than this trip is for you.
The Slough Creek drainage in Yellowstone Park is a very special valley. Within its meadows lie great fishing for native Cutthroat trout, incredible scenery, and great wildlife viewing opportunities. The 3rd meadow of slough creek is the uppermost meadow before leaving the Park. Needless to say hiking close to 20 miles with a pack is tiresome. That is why a pack trip is the ideal solution. Let a fine horse and pack mule carry us in where we can spend 3 days fishing this remote meadow. Expect to be fishing anything from big terrestrials to small baetis this time of year. As the grasses dry out in August the grasshoppers move closer to the water where the wind can make them an easy meal for a hungry cutthroat. If you are not a seasoned cowboy don't worry, this is a gentle ride and once we are in camp we only have to worry about fishing, making this an ideal trip for both horse lover and fly fisherman alike. If you are desiring more horseback riding, day rides from camp can be arranged as well. This is a beautiful spot to spend a few days!
This is a 4 day trip, Aug 15 - Aug 18th. I will book on a first come basis with a maximum of 8 people for the trip. If you think you have a private group that wants to go and is smaller than 8, arrangements for a private trip can be made, but pricing will be different. All horse tack and camping supplies will be provided. Fishing gear can be rented if you don't have it already. Anglers must bring their own flies and terminal tackle. I am happy to make a Slough Creek fly selection for you with all the yummy morsels the fish might want as well as tackle for the trip. I will also extend a 15% discount off anything you might need for your trip at the West Yellowstone Fly Shop. Please let me know in advance what you might need. I can easily bring you your items wherever we meet.
I have been a fishing guide in Montana and YNP for 8 years. On this trip you will have experienced horsemen, cook, and fishing guide all working together to make a great trip for you. Let me know if you have any questions.
