TUNA HUNTER offers professional sport fishing charters out of Gloucester, MA  for anglers of all abilities and all ages.  We target Bluefin Tuna, Striped Bass, Cod and Haddock, Flounder, Bluefish, Sharks and more on conventional and fly fishing tackle. 
 
 Captain Gary Cannell has over 25 years experience fishing and hunting up and down the Atlantic Coast. While his Bluefin Tuna expertise is renown (and prompted the name Tuna Hunter), fishing for Striped Bass and Bluefish along the shores of Cape Ann is a specialty.  Cod and Haddock bottom fishing is consistently productive from April through November ... Accommodation options are numerous in the Cape Ann area.  During peak summer season and holiday weekends, planning in advance is recommended.

There are many hotels, motels, and bed and breakfasts in the Cape Ann area - all are within a 10-15 minute drive to the docks. 
Cape Ann is a great vacation are for the entire family - beaches, art galleries, shopping, fine restaurants, great seafood - and of course, great fishing!

From the North
Follow Route 95 south from Maine/New Hampshire to Route 128. Take Route 128 North to Exit 14 (West Gloucester Exit ~ Route 133). At the bottom of the ramp take a right (Essex Ave), follow road 2 1/2 mile and you will see Cape Ann Marina Resort on the left hand side of the road opposite the Gloucester Cinema.
Tuna Hunter is on dock J slip 6. The J Dock ramp is to the left of the large boat lift.

From the East by Sea

From the South
Follow either Route 93, 95 or Route 1 north to intersection with Route 128. Take Route 128 to Exit 14 (West Gloucester Exit ~ Route 133). At the bottom of the ramp take a right (Essex Ave), follow road 2 1/2 mile and you will see Cape Ann Marina Resort on the left hand side of the road opposite the Gloucester Cinema.

From the West
Follow Route 90 (Massachusetts Turnpike) east to Exit 14, Route 128/Route 95. Take Route 128 / Route 95 north. Stay on Route 128 after it splits with Route 95. Proceed on Route 128 to Exit 14 (West Gloucester Exit ~ Route 133). At the bottom of the ramp take a right (Essex Ave), follow road 2 1/2 mile and you will see Cape Ann Marina Resort on the left hand side of the road opposite the Gloucester Cinema.

Follow the arrows to route 128 North to Exit 14

At bottom of exit 14 (West Gloucester) take right and follow 2.5 miles

Season:
TUNA HUNTER fishes from April through November.   

As a guide, the best fishing times for each type of fishing are:
Cod/Haddock/Bottom Fishing - April through November
Striped Bass/Bluefish - Late May through October
Bluefin Tuna - Late June through October
Sharks - July through October
Whale Watching - April through November

Equipment Used:
TUNA HUNTER uses professional-grade tackle and fishing line for all out charters:  Penn reels in all sizes, up to 130's for giant tuna and sharks.  Fenwick and Penn rods for cod and haddock and striper bass fishing, and a custom set of Hardy Tuna rods for giant tuna fishing.   Ande and Seguar line of varying strengths is changed frequently on all reels  Reddington Flyrods are always on board.
All tackle is meticulously maintained after every fishing trip to ensure optimal operations for your fishing charter.

Rates:
2006 Sportfishing Rates
We regret that due to increased costs of fuel, dockage, insurance and other essentials we must raise our prices for 2006. We are doing our best to hold prices, despite fuel increases.
Striped Bass & Bluefish Charter $850
8 hours of striper and/or blue fishing along the rocky shore and islands of the Cape Ann area. "Half-day" Evening Bass n' Blues Charter $500
Half-day charters ( 4 hours) are offered 4 - 8pm as available. A great way to spend a summer evening! Cod and Haddock Fishing $1000
8 hour trip, usually 7AM to 3PM   Marathon  Cod Fishing $1200 11 hours of cod fishing for $1200 ~ take advantage of extra hours on the fishing grounds while the bite is on!
Shark Fishing $1100 Giant Bluefin Tuna Fishing $1100  10 hour trip, usually 6AM to 4PM
Tuna over 73" are the boat's property due to federal permitting.*

Marathon Giant Bluefin Tuna Charter $3700 Two-day, overnight offshore marathon of serious bluefin tuna fishing. Weather permitting. Max of 4 persons. Not for the light of heart or stomach.

A deposit of $400 is required for all charters to reserve your date. This deposit non-refundable unless the charter is canceled by the Captain due to inclement weather and we are unable to reschedule, or unless your cancellation is received at least two weeks prior to your charter date.
Mail deposits, made out to Tuna Hunter, to Captain Gary Cannell, 4 Heritage Drive, Rockport, MA 01966. Note that if reserving by check, your charter is not reserved until we receive your check.
We do accept deposits via credit card ~ please call us for details. This option will instantly reserve your date. Please do not email credit card information, for your own security.
On the day of your charter, we accept payment by cash or personal check. (Yes, we do take checks!). Please call us to arrange for other payment options in advance.
Our mates work for tips, based on service provided - a 15-20% gratuity is customary
 

Deposit:
A $400 deposit is required for all charters, to hold one's charter date.
The deposit can be taken by credit card - however, please do not email your credit card information!  Please call us at 978-407-1351 to arrange to hold your charter by credit card.
On the day of your charter, prefererred payment methods are cahs or check. 
A two-week notice of cancellation is required for all charters.  If 2-weeks notice of cancellation is received, your deposit will be refunded in full.   If less than two weeks notice is given, first, every attempt will be made to reschedule your charter.  If your charter cannot be rescheduled, we must retain your deposit. 
Cancellations due to Weather: 
Your safety is of utmost importance.  While we do fish in the rain (and some say the fish bite better!) we carefully watch wind and sea conditions.  Captain Gary may cancel or delay a charter on the day of the charter due to excessive wind or unsafe sea conditions.  Your safety is of utmost importance.  
In case of a weather cancellation by the captain, we will make every effort to reschedule your charter at the earliest convenience.  If we cannot reschedule, and the cancellation was by the captin due to weather, your deposit will be refunded.
If weather looks to be a concern, we will contat you the evening before your charter.  If there is any question, please call us at any time at 978-407-1351.
 

Other information:
Weather and sun at sea is often different then on land - for your comfort and safety, we request that all charters come prepared with these recommended items:
 -- Jackets and warm clothing.  Rain gear is there is any hint of rain in the forecast.
- Hats and sunscreen.  Sun on the water is more intense than on land, even if the day seems overcast.
-- Soft-soled shoes, like boat shoes or deck shoes or white-soled sneakers. 
-- Food and drink for your party for the day.    If on vacation , we can recommend onshore sites that will pack a lunch for you, or local grocery stores.
