We offer steam side classes, clinics, and schools to keep you up dated on all the latest information on fly fishing techniques, demonstrating new products, and to help you understand the river and how to fish it affectively. Our casting lessons come with a guaranty that the session will be low key and relaxing, because the last thing you need is to be stressed out when you’re trying to learn some thing new. Each one of our instructors has many years of experience and will patiently teach you the proper way to cast a fly rod and present the fly. Weather you are just starting out, or you’ve been fly fishing for years, weather you cast a trout rod or a spey rod, we can help you reach your next skill level of casting.
Location: The small town of Maupin sets nestled in the walls of the Deschutes River canyon that stretches for more than 100 miles just east of the Cascade Mountains, and south of the Columbia River. This places you about 85 miles east of Portland, and 40 miles south of The Dalles, in the north central region of the state of Oregon in the Pacific Northwest.

Transportation: Transportation is provided from our fly shop in Maupin to and from fishing locations on the Deschutes river on guided trips. Transportation is not provided from Portland International Airport
Directions: Directions to Deschutes Canyon Fly Shop from Portland Oregon Head East from Portland on I-84 to The Dalles (about 85 miles). Take the highway 197 exit and head South to Maupin (about 40 miles). Drive through Mapin and cross the bridge over the river. 100 yards past the bridge on the left is our fly shop. Water/Weather Conditions: The Deschutes River is 252 miles long from the head waters to the mouth where it empties into the Columbia River. The lower 100 miles is considered the lower Deschutes which cuts through arid dessert lands, rain shadowed just east of the Cascade Range. The average rain fall per year is 11 inches in Maupin and surrounding areas. Winter does produce occasional snow fall, leaving one to four inches behind. Temperatures range in the teens for the lows, to mid forties for the highs, and of course sometimes colder if an Arctic front moves through. Spring and Fall are usually the most favorable months here, with warm day time temperatures in the 65 to 80 degree range, and delightfully cooler evenings that drop down to 40 to 50 degrees. Summer brings hot day time highs around 90 to 110 degrees in July and August, with evening lows averaging about 50 to 65 degrees.
